I pulled the rear suspension off of my 79 on Saturday in order to remove the trailing arms. The original undercoating is on the frame and it made it's way into the pocket that the trailing arms slip into. The bushings on the arms are all but gone but there is no rust anywhere! I had to chip away the undercoating on the nuts that hold the arm in place and with little effort the nuts just came off. There is some surface rust on the exposed suspension parts but none that can't be cleaned up. I just had to share this with the group. I spent over a year searching for a car and as you may suspect living in the NJ where winters are sometimes harsh there are few cars without rust and I looked at some poor examples of cars. Some of the cars I checked out had good paint, clean engine compartments and some had completely redone the interiors. But the frames were rotted! One guy had his 1980 "with 23,000 original miles" sitting frame deep in snow. Everything had rust on the undercarriage. I'm now in the process of rebuilding the rest of the car but at least it has a good foundation. BTW, I sent the arms to Bair's for reconditioning.

That's very cool that you didn't have to break out the reciprocating saw and cut the bolts out like most of us had to do. Good luck with your project and keep us posted.
