I know there's been a lot of threads regarding insurance companies and I've checked out just about all of them. The problem I'm running into - and looking for advice - is that is seems that to get proper collector or classic car insurance, they insist that you have another "daily driver" car.

My problem is that I only have my Corvette and it's not a daily driver. I don't have a second car (barely even need 1 car living in NYC!). None of the insurance companies will offer me insurance. |cussing|

I'm currently insured by GEICO, but it's full insurance, expensive and the coverage is not so hot.

Suggestions? |ohwell|

Keep in mind with collector car insurance that you can't use your Vette as a daily driver... meaning you can't drive it to work or for errands and some collector car insurance companies may limit annual mileage.

I have collector car insurance on my 73. I use it only on weekends and for special events.

Other than acquire a "daily driver" I don't know what to tell you. Good luck. |headscratch|

I don't drive the car except weekends or special car events. Apparently, one can't own a "collector car" and nothing else and get the proper insurance. My concern is that I have full insurance on the car now, but collision only pays "blue book" and the car is considered "modified antique".

The search continues...

Have you thought about buying a junker for a daily driver and getting the minimum insurace you can on it.

I totally understand about the full coverage you have now and the $$$ they say your Vette is worth. Mine was the same way until I got collector car insurance. Talk about a sigh of relief, at least it is now covered for what it is worth.

Good luck, I think you're kinda between a rock and a hard place... |frown|

Actually, I have. But the reason I don't have a "daily driver" is that I live in Manhattan where the need for a car is pretty much "nill". Not to mention that parking runs between 200-300/month (if you can find it), insurance, gas, etc.

So I'm wondering if I a motorcycle would work? Whaddya think? Would that be considered a "daily driver"?

In NJ, with Hagerty, a motorcycle is NOT a daily driver. I guess they figure you won't wanna drive it in the rain or snow or somethin' like that. Besides that, Hagerty requires a locked garage that it be stored in.

Do you have any relatives or friends who own a small piece of property nearby in the tri-state are? And would be willing to store a vehicle 'out behind the barn'? If so, buy an old Chevette (gasp) or Vega |eek|, list it as your daily driver, and park it. You wouldn't need it for commuting, in fact you should get a break on the insurance because of that. |laugh|

You could park it here on campus for $125 a semester or somethin'. The car doesn't have to be in my name anywhere but with the school(so kids can drive their parent's car). Its an option and then if you really needed your "daily driver" its just a trip on the Path away.

Trying to help, I think I'm gonna have the same problem soon!

I priced Haggerty as well as State Farm with their collector car insurance for my 82'CE. They were both about the same! Mine is not a daily driver and in a locked garage. I went with State Farm since I had a local agent. Good Luck
