With 4 kids and all their bikes/skateboards/crap/etc. in the garage, I'm considering putting a lift in my garage to get the vette out of harm's way. (Plus it will allow me to get my daily driver in under it for the winter.) I looked locally here in CT and briefly checked a few sites on-line. Seems by total luck that I have the necessary 12' ceiling in my garage. Other than that, I'm completely confused. Has anyone ordered a lift and installed it themselves? Brand recommendations? Experiences/Nightmares? Thanks for your thoughts! ~

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

last week, my computer crashed, and I had saved a thread about some guy that had a lift, like you want, and a part failed, and the lift fellover in his garage. It did a lot of damage to his c3, and also did a small amt of damage to his newer vette. As I said, I lost everything,so I'll try to find it again, but don't hold your breath...

Thanks for checking on that article... That scenario is exactly the horror show I'd like to avoid! By the way, how do you guys add an image to your signature. I must be a total spaz as I can't figure it out.

Joe on the top right of the page under where it says "profile", click on the help tab. Then select "adding pic to your signature" that will help you. Also you have to have it stored somewhere, since you are a Gold member, Adam allow us to store them here. IM if you need more help

The thread you are looking for was on the other forum in the c3 section. Evidently the horror story is still playing it self out. As for a lift I am either going to purchase a drive on unit or fab one up . I,m a gettin tooooo old crawlin around on the shop floor !

Hey Joe,
Nice looking vette....but then again I'm partial to Orange.....
The lift that fell was a 4 post lift....one of the locks failed. Then the unit fell over....none of the 4 posts were anchored to the floor. According the owner, the instructions state that it is not necessary to secure.
I use a friends 2 post lift for repairs (each post is bolted to the floor), but I don't know if I would want to try to store something under it....
