of the 500,00 or so C3`s produced only about a third of them had chrome bumpers forward and aft. Other than collector and special editon cars these bumper cars are a better investment. The big blocks will also retain higher values. Making them a better investment. The thing is , are you buying an investment or a car tyhat you really love and want to enjoy. I think most of us here understand the value aspect, but aren`t interested in selling our cars unless it is absolutely neccesary or purchasing a different one. Good luck in your search and welcome to the club.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed
Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.
2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
Wheter you get, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. One of the great things about being a member of the "family" here is that if you find a car practically anywhere, there's someone here who will likely be willing to go look at it (you might have to twist a finger - gee, I have to go look at a gorgeuos chromie for sale? Alright - I gues so - if I have to!).
Take your time, and as Joel says, find the best car you can afford. I spent about 20% more than I planned, but I'm glad I did.
Look at every used Corvette site on the internet - even if they don't have what you want, send them an e-mail - they may get it. That's how I got mine!
Best of all, have fun doing it. Looking for my car was one of the most frustrating, but fun activities ever (other than picking it up and driving it home!!).
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
Just get the best you can get for your $$$. Don't buy somebody's "project"car. He has lost interest in it and tell you he has ALL the parts that go on the car SOMEWHERE in all those boxes. Also don't buy one for an investment you won't want to drive it and maybe you should't. Now your stuck with a nice looking Vette but all it really is is a 1-1 model. Give a strong look at those LT'1s. I've had Three of them although there have been 1970 Z/28's 4 speed cars and they are a blast to drive and will suprise you. Those things will hall butt and handle better than a bick block.A lot of people blow those things off because there not a "BIG BLOCK"and they end up getting their doors blown off.I've ran many cars with my 70 Z/28's One I bought brand new at Berger Chevy. I got tired of running mock !1's, big block chevells and even a few 440 mopars Although the big blocks do start to pull on you but by that time the race is over.Anyway, like I said look at the LT'1s Drive one you'll see!!!big time fun. They have a sweet spot in 2'nd gear that is unbeleivable!!!

Earlier this year, approximately April to June, Corvette Magazine did a market value on the C3's. It talked about show condition, good condition, tlc, etc price to expect and also gave the percentage the particular model appreciated from last year to this year. I am sure you should be able to find the info either on line or in the library.
Good Luck and that is a fine car, but the parts are an issue and it was a troublesome car according to friends of mine that have them. However, that is one of my favorites.

I was just in Pep Boy's and there was an article on C3 values ... i do not recall the magazine title ...
check all the websites ...
10 bucks for a price handbook (i just googled corvette prices)
have fun looking and test driving ...
then DRIVE IT !!
I bought the 69 for a number of reasons. The reasons are in order of precedence 1.) It's a convertable. 2.) It's a 4 Speed. 3.) It's a 69 (Good companion for the 69 Camaro). It was not a matching numbers car so I could use it as a canvas to build what I wanted. Even with a non-matching engine, the car still appraised at $36,000.00 after I finished it. Will I sell it? NO! I built it to cruise in. The wife loves her Camaro but definately likes being driven around with the top down. I have always liked the 68 to 72's the best but all C-3's are great cars.
Roger:
Corvette Magazine, June 07, pg 67 states a 68, 427/390 hp, respectively a coupe, or convertible is approximately worth in the following conditions:
Show 42K, 49K,
Good 28K, 33K,
Average 19.5K, 23.9K or
needs TLC 10K, 12K.
The coupe appreciated 17% last year and the vert appreciated 11% last year!
Hope this helps and good luck!
Rick
All great advise...but the best advise is to determine the absolute maximum amount of money that you are willing to spend and buy the best car you can get for that amount. Personally, I like the low production numbers for the 1970 model year.
