Vette(s): 1979 Coupe THE DIVA color: BLACK
Had a bit of a scare yesterday afternoon.
About 5pm (est) ''someone'' tried to get into my Vette while it was parked in the employee parking lot at work.
I didn't find out about it till 5:30 when I was leaving.
I was clocking out and another employee came up to me and asked if the ''gray'' vette was mine....I said yea...then went on to explain to me that one of the truck drivers saw some ''kids'' hanging around my Vette and one actually tried to get the drivers door open...and was pulling hard enough that the car was rocking..The truck driver decided to go over and when the ''kids'' saw him they (2 of them) jumped in their car and sped off!!
As luck would have it....they never did get inot the Vette..but I decided to call the police and make a report about it....and get this...while I was sitting in my car talking on the cellphone to the dispatcher at the PD....the same kids actually have the kahoonas to come back!!!
When they saw me sitting in the car they took off..but I did get a partial plate number and 2-3 minutes later a sherriffs car pulls up and about 3 minutes after 2 town cops as well.
What is the world coming to when in broad daylight in a Wal*Mart parking lot someone tries to steal your car!?
I definitely am NOT parking in the same lot today (supposely designated employee parking with security)..gonna leave it in a HIGHer profile area!!

I think it's time for electrified door handles! If you don't disarm the car with a remote, you get a shock if you touch handles. Would certainly keep the freakin' kids away!
I'm glad to hear they didn't get into your Vette!

Wow....glad to hear they didn't get in.....also glad to hear that when they came back the second time they didn't try a car jacking...with you in it!!
I have a friend that lost his car that way a few years back. He left the movies late at night...walking with everyone back to the parking lot. When he unlocked the door, a guy grabbed the keys from his hand, knocked him down, jumped in the car and sped away. When the police recovered the car a couple of days later, the radio had been torn out of the dash....looks like they used a crow bar....and it was sitting on the ground with all of the tires missing. He did get the car back, but it took a lot of time and money to repair the damage...and his insurance company wasn't too helpful!
I agree with the electrified door handles....something with a shock that would knock them on their butts....
Since you were parking in a secured employee parking lot....what does the store management say about the incident? Are they going to increase the security?
Good luck....

You are one very, very lucky lady...!!! I hope the authorities are able to track down those clowns and "give them some religion". You also have a new friend in the truck driver. Sounds like he stepped in at just the right time to stop a bad situation from getting worse. Who knows what they would have done to get into the car. Personally I'd be leaving the car tucked away in the garage at home for awhile unless I had assurances from the store management that whenever I drove it to work there'd be an armed guard patroling the parking lot.

Me too!! I think they were surprised to see me IN the car and also I was talking on my cellphone!!
Management hasn't said too much so far..I did talk with security and was told that their car was caught on a sevaillence tape...but NOT when they were at my car...was just out of the camera's range.
..but the police do have the tape...sooo....hopefully will catch these guys. for the next while I will be parking in another area....where my car can be seen at all times.

I couldn't thank the truck driver enough!!!!! Hell he said he was glad he was there!!! I offered to buy him dinner etc etc...he said no....thanks anyways..just glad I could help!
I wish I could leave it at home....but the only other choice I have would be to drive Hubby's C4.
I am gonna put in a suggestion ( VERY strongly too) about better security in our parking area...obviously ONE camera isn't enough!

Then I'd suggest looking through the "Thrifties" section of the automotive classifieds and pick up a daily runner of some sort (an old Corolla never dies, it just rusts away!) rather than risk having some serious damage being done to your pride and joy. I'll bet you could find something really decent for less than you have invested in what is bolted to just one set of lugs on your Vette.

Yea...we have been ''looking'' for something else for me to drive....not gonna be too much longer before ''Rosie'' goes to the paint shop.
BTW...got an update...talked with Security today and was told that the police came back and wanted to see servaillence video and sure enough the ''kids'' car was on it..only problem is that MY car wasn't!..My Vette was just out of the camera shot....but..at least the cops got an ID on the little P***ks!For the time being..I have permission to park over by the Tire and Lube part of the store...that way my car is always in VIEW from the bays and the main desk !! Not a permanent ''fix''..but better than nothing!

Car ALARM, SOMETHING WITH HIGH SENSITIVE SENSORS a loud siren works wonders to scare the inexperienced theif, but for the experienced a battery shut off works wonders. Even a sign with " THIS VIEHCLE IS UNDER CONSTANT VIDEO SURVIELLANCE BY SECURITY" if they can read. Something to make the car not an easy choice.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
One thing I always try to do, is to never leave my vette in a parking lot, anywhere. Most people are really dumb about how to treat a nice car. If my vette was the only car in the lot, some dodo would park about 12 in away from it, and try to squeeze out of their car. Years ago, I had a new 65 SS chevy, and it was the only car in the lot, on the row it was in, and some jerk backed into the drivers door. There was no way he couldn't see it. I parked it under a light, but he hit it anyway. One thing about it though, he left his name and address, and I got it fixed a short time later. I was really lucky, most people would just drive away!!!

THat's too funny an idea Adam! Someone tried to break into my Laser XT turbo once about 10 years ago. I was miffed for weeks. The gnarled up the weatherstripping really badly trying to pry something to get it open (I suspect a slim jim or something).
I can't believe the lack of respect people have these days. It's all this entitlement crap which is brainwashing them into thinking they should get everything for nothing.
