Vette(s): 1971 454/425 surviver 78000 miles convertible 4 speed

Any one know if there is some one, or some way to have a 71 vet certified as being a real original surviver. I have no build sheet or tank sticker but all the #s match. I bought it off a guy thats retireing and it sat in his garage for 20 years with only 5000 miles he put on it. the car has a total of 78000k miles. 71 vert 454/425. I think its only one of 18 left.

From the paint code you can tell if it was painted another color.
You might be able to check numbers on the carb, tranny and rear end.
The NCRS books are a good reference.

You need to research the National Corvette Restoration Society.  You can have the car judged by experts at a regional event.  There are points counted toward originality and condition and also special "Bowtie" certification for unrestored Corvettes.  There is "Bloomington Gold" survivor certification unrelated to NCRS.  I'm not sure how that works, but its supposedly a really big deal to get that.

In order for a Corvette to be "certified" as a "Survivor", it would need to be entered, judged, and accepted as such by Bloomington Gold.(The term "Survivor" is a Bloomington Gold Trademark)
You could also enter it in an NCRS meet, and have it judged there. NCRS has the "Bowtie" award that corresponds with the "Survivor" award, as it is based solely on originality, and if the car would be useful in furthering the education of our hobby.
To do that, you would need to be an NCRS member.

NCRS and Bloomington are two different entities, but both are committed to the preservation of all Corvettes, and reward them according to originality.

You might try to contact a local NCRS Chapter in your area, and ask if some of the folks would be willing to look your car over, and give an honest evaluation of it's potential.
One thing you do NOT want to do at this point is to change anything, or do any major cleaning/detailing of the car, if you are planning to have it "Certified" with either NCRS or Bloomington. You could very well unknowingly do harm to surface finishes, and markings that may help determine the true originality of the car.

All that being said...it's your car, and you can do whatever you wish with it.
If you believe the car is that original, I would implore you to keep it that way...at least until proven that it is not as original as thought. Others will disagree, and that's fine...there's room in the hobby for all of us.
Good luck with the Corvette, and glad you found one of the rarest Corvettes ever made, and I really hope it can be verified...I really do.

(Am I the only one that noticed he's talking about an LS6?!?!?)

I noticed it Joel but was waiting to see your expert opinion. After all, you are a judge and who better to chime in on this. Appreciate you thoughts.

Scott

I would attempt to have the seller check back through his records to determine whether he has any of the original documentation for this car.
