Hello all!

I have been restoring a 69 T-top for the last 4 1/2 years. It is now in the body shop and is getting close to paint. As a couple of layers of paint were sanded off we discovered that the original paint scheme was unmistakeably Baldwin Motion. This car was (and will be agin) originally Cortez Silver with red Baldwin Motion stripe scheme. 2 differant bodymen are sure that that this is the original paint. I have familiarized myself with the Baldwin Motion Corvette and know the basics, but what I still am questioning is whether or not this car, which was a pretty basic Corvette (Sport Coupe, 350/300hp, and pretty lightly optioned) could actually have been something Motion Performance would have wanted to mess with. I have had conflicting opinions and would like to hear what all you experts think. Unfortunately all my efforts at tracing this car's history have yielded little or nothing. What does anyone think?

without any performance mods i would question it being a Motion Performance car. Is the motor in the original?Maybe it was replaced. Good luck.

seems like I read somewhere that the "Motion" cars were so popular that a lot of people duplicated them. Motion even sold parts so an individual could build his own.

Vetterbob is right, one of the big things with these cars was the performance mods. Good luck!

Here is a wb site - where you can purchase a print and/or a book about the Baldwin /Motion phase III corvette . From what I've read on these cars - there are only 5 still accounted for out of 12

From the description I read - these were not your ordinary  engines , transmissions , handling packages, interior or exterior . I would quess that if your car has a 350/300 either the motion 427 has been replaced or the car could be a clone - there were alot of cloning of Motion cars - mostly with paint and not with performasnce goodies. Baldwin / Motion is still in business in their original shop in Long Island NY. Perhaps they can supply  more data including "NUMBERS"

Good Luck

Big Al

Thanks for your replies!

I neglected to mention that the car is completely numbers matching (26 years deteriorating in a barn in Indiana). I am aware of Joel Rosen and his ability to check vin numbers but not willing at this point to spend the $1000-$1500 that he allegedly charges to verify what I have believed from the start is doubtful. But then there is that cool paint scheme! Regardless of whether the car is genuine Baldwin Motion or not, I am going to restore that stripe just because I think its part of this car's history.

I don't think I'd spend the cash either. It's like he's getting paid twice for the same car. It shouldn't be much more than looking at his files and finding the serial numbers for the cars he built.

Build the car the way you want it and have fun!
