Looks like my tank sticker is fully in tact on top of my tank. Now, what's the best way to remove one? I'm sure their pretty fragile, eh?

How tough a job is it to remove the tank? What tools are needed?

I found my tank sticker when I pulled the body. It came off the tank faily easy by carefully sliding a putty knife under it. AS far as how you drop the tank: You will need to drain the tank. Remove the spare tire brackets and plastic cover. Drop the exhaust system. Disconnect the sending unit wires. At the back of the frame you will find 2 bolts that hold the straps. At the front of the tank there is a bolted on crossmember. Support the tank and unbolt it. Remove the tank rubber fuel lines (3 of them). The tank will then rotate out and through the frame.
Its a good idea to have the tank checked for rust while you have it out because you won't want to do this again onces you've done it. Putting it back in is a lot harder than taking it out. I had to fight with the new straps to get them to fit and I had the body off.

If the tank sticker is fully intact, I would leave it alone. The age of it can make it near impossible to remove it without damaging it. Intact on the car is better than in pieces off. Just my $.02.

Thanks. But looks like I've got a leaky tank anyway. Darn. So I'm gonna have to replace the tank. I guess I could keep the old tank lying around with some protective plastic over the sticker.

Make sure you take a photo of the tank sticker on the tank before removing it. Make sure you have a good lens (macro is preferred for close up shots, a macro lens is for close up photos). If you use a digital camera, make sure you review the photo to make sure it came out before removing the sticker.
