My '80 only has 16, 000 miles on it and is pretty close to original. I have only changed tires, brakes, battery, and plugs/wires. I drive it when i can get the time, but I can only drive it with the T-Tops off (6'7"). Since I can't drive it with the t-tops on, it does not go out in rain or snow (can't get wipers for my glasses)
.

I am thinking about going to Bloomington next June and entering the car in the Bloomington Survivor process. I would like to know if anyone has ever done this, and any other details if you have them.
Any advise or information will be helpful.
Thanks

It sounds like you might have a good shot at it.
I participated in the Bloomington Gold Survivor judging in '04 with my '72 coupe but did not win the Survivor award.
I would suggest that you get in contact with Bloomington Gold and get a copy of the "Survivor Owners Advisory" before you register. This is a detailed description of what your car will be judged on. I had never heard of this booklet and went into it blindly. I knew that I would be judged in 4 areas:
-Paint/Fiberglass Exterior
-Interior
-Engine Compartment
-Chassis
You have to be over 50% unrestored or unmodified in at least 3 of the 4 areas. I had changed some parts on the engine (water pump, alt., master brake cylinder) and had done some touch up painting. I knew I had a problem with the engine compartment, but thought I could pass 3 out of the 4. What I didn't know was that I had too much surface rust on the frame, so I failed the chassis as well the engine compartment. My own fault for not getting enough information beforehand.
There is also a 40 mile road trip, which was no problem.
I would suggest calling or e-mailing Bloomington Gold and talking to Helene Zasadny (sp?)
who at the time was the director of Survivor. She is a very nice lady and very helpful.
AS I said earlier, you should have no problem, because you never drive your car in the rain or snow. I would check the frame anyway. There is a description in "Survivor Owners Advisory" of how much rust is acceptable, as well as what is acceptable in each of the other areas.
Good luck!! Even tho I didn't make it, it was a fun experience.

While I have never done Bloomington, I did try one year...I got all of the info to enter my car for judging. That's when I found out, you have to pay the fee whether or not your car gets accepted for judging.
If there are more cars entered in any certain class(year model) than the class limits, they have a "lottery", to see which cars are judged. If you don't get picked, you don't get judged, but you still have to pay! That right there turned me off to doing the Bloomington thing. The entry fees are outrageous, to begin with, and to take a chance on NOT getting in? Not me...sorry. I'll stick with NCRS, thank you!
Why not go the NCRS route? It's much cheaper, judging fee -wise, and the judging is still done by pretty much the same people in both organizations. The NCRS "BowTie" award is the equivalent of "Survivor".

I agree with Adam; you might also want to look into NCRS Flight Awards.
