Vette(s): 1974 Roadster being restored now!
Hey everyone!

Man, I love this website, you guys are all so great. I hope I can help out as much as you guys have already helped me....

So now onto the question... Where's the best place to get body and engine mounts for a 74 350 car? Anyone have any experience finding places, because I know these corvette specialty shops buy them from the manufacturers and mark them up and then sell them to us. So there's got to be a better way. Also, is it me, or are the Engine mounts too firm? It looks like they injected the metal with some rubber, but it doesn't look like it would absorb any kind of shocks or vibration from the engine...

Thanks a lot as usual!

I guess I gotta ask, are you sure you need engine mounts? And if so, how did you determine you need them? Same with the body mounts? I have never changed an engine or body mount but I would think it is more than a few minute job and not to be done unless you are sure it needs it.

I didn't change my engine mount myself, but I took it to a small shop in town and the mechanic did it pretty quick. I forget how much it cost me. It wasn't purchased from a Corvette Parts retailer though, just from a local parts store. If you do choose to get them from a Corvette parts dealer, I'd try Zip. I've had very good service from them so far.

My body mounts are shot. The rubber is breaking apart and all, so as long as I'm restoring the car, might as well change them too. They don't look that difficult, just getting to them is going to be a pain, but so has everything else with 28 years of rust on it. As far as the engine mounts go, I was actually looking to replace the ones I have in there now, with some urethane ones that might absorb a little more vibration from the engine. Again, 28 year old rubber can't be in that great of shape right now.

Also, you might want to swap out your body mounts too when you put in that monster engine of yours (nice write up by the way). I'd go with some urethane ones, just better safe than sorry I guess.

Yeah, I agree with you on the old rubber. I look at my bushings and they are cracked up and I can't believe they still perform their function. If I get my garage fixed up I would like to order a few bushing kits, using urethane of course, and redo them this winter. I think that I would notice a difference in the ride.

You gotta shop til you drop. I have a 74 also, but not yet ready to do the chassis job, maybe in about 5 years. In the meantime, check out Corvette-Rubber.com, they have just about all the rubber on a Vette. You may want to contact Bair's Ph# 800-421-9644, they claim to be suspension experts. Good luck and let me know where you end up buying them.

I've been buying the parts from Ecklers, they've had great service so far, and the prices are really good too. Also it helps to buy everything at one go, they have kits where they put all the parts of the car ie front end, into one, and that saves some more money too. I've been really happy with all the parts, everything's bolted up perfectly and it looks great! I need to get some pics online, time to dust off that digital camera.
