I like that rust tip - another use for that white towel instead of waving it at the Canucks game
Yeah, viewing over the net worked for you hmm? Well, I have checked the classifieds, also bcclassifieds.com, canadatrader.com, and the place I'm going to on saturday is at http://showrooms.canadatrader.com/925/904
St Louis being a bit far away from me in the Lower Mainland in BC Canada, I think that one's out... but the Vancouver classifieds show very little... 4 mentions of used Corvettes of any age last I checked (3 days ago) and most of them were newer ones. But I'm looking there too. If I find one out at the lot there, i'll troll the fora for any Vancouverites... speaking of, has anyone else on these boards had experience with Corvette Specialties as a dealership (the one referenced in the cadatrader.com/showrooms link above)?
Will keep it all in mind and continue the methodical search...

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Not sure if you are still looking, but if you click on this link you might want to contact this guy...

not sure if you're close to him or not, but thought I'd help. It comes from another site I belong to on Yahoo Groups.
Good Luck,

Good Luck,

I'm not sure if you're still looking, but check E-Bay.
I had been searching for a long time for my Vette, getting frustrated, & someone I knew told me to check with E-Bay.
I finally found my baby on there, went & checked her out. (I was lucky enough to take a day drive to check it out.
I won the auction & drove her home. I've had a few small things go wrong since then, but I've been able to ask here, & have had nothing but excellent help.
The other ones I had been following, I had been in contact with the sellers, & if I didn't feel good about the person, I just passed it up.
I know how you feel, you want to get into your Vette, but be patient, it will happen!
Take Care & Good Luck,
John

hmm... ebay I have checked, but will continue to do so, as i will with those other sites.
I've spent the last 2 weeks tracking a 1980 that is in *much* nicer condition, only mechanical defect is the a/c which is not connected, and I'm not to picky over that. It's got some wear to the interior and the paint isn't as nice as the first one I test drove, but it works - nicer to fix paint than mechanical issues!
It's a 1980 350ci @ 190hp (the middle of the road model) with elebrock headers/intake added. The spoiler has 2 spots where paint has flaked off, exposing the previous coat (white, is now purple... I know not a stock color, but I can tolerate it) and the interior has a couple tears in the door vinyl and the carper in the rear is a little ratty - nothing huge tho.
I've tested it twice now, including in the rain, and found no leaks... also, the handbrake works with no problems (which I hear is a rarity...?)
Power steering needs more fluid added, no leaks exist in fluid systems or vacuums. As to how long that will last.... it's an old car.
But yes, thanks for the additional information, and I'll try and post updates a little more often... I'm checking those links now.... | grin |
Cheers!
Mike

update -
just got the mech check results back (via phone)
bad things: seepage in valve cover gaskets, seepage from rad (so a rad leak), slight play in the idler arm, power steering leak (to be repaired yet by the dealer) and the beginnings of rust on the rad support.
so lie the issues.

well, after recommendations from others and after examining options, including the majority of vettes available here and their base prices versus shape, i have decided to move off the vette idea for now.... tho this does not mean my desire to one day own the c3 has gone down any - someday, someday... i just need something a little more reliable and a little cheaper (and within the next month or so), but it was nice to try.
thanks to the fora members for assistance, and best wishes....

Mike,
Don't look so hard.
Back off a bit but keep an eye open. You never know when one of your neighbors ( at least sdomeone close by ) opens up a garage door or an old barn door and lo and behold, there it sits, the Vette you have been looking for. Obviously a bit of a stretch there, but I hope I make my point. Hope to hearf from you again with a message saying you found "your" Vette.
Good Luck !
p.s. if you happen to run across a '69 or '70 Chevelle convetible with power top, pw, ps, pb, factory air, console and buckets in good condition with no rust for under $15,000.00 give me a yell

I bought my 74 on www.corvettetrader.com
Found it there, went and saw it, wasn't impressed at all, especially for the price the guy was asking for. It was a RIP-OFF. But I left him an offer about 2.5k less than what he had it advertised for. He knew the car wasn't worth that much, and I still feel that I paid too much, especially after all the work we've put into it.... but damn it's fun :)
