Topic: bra for rubber bumper sharks
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
I've got decent paint on my '76 (had it painted 4 - 5 years ago) but I stupidly did not replace the front bumper cover and now it's cracked right down the middle, it's wavy, and it looks like it's going to crack in another spot. Rather than paying a fortune for a new cover and then another fortune to get it painted to match, I'm thinking about a bra. What I'd really like is one of those bras they have for C5's that just covers the nose and doesn't go up past the headlights, but I haven't seen one for sharks. Has anyone ever seen anything like that? If so, please let me know. Or if you have another idea....

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Mid America is the only place I have seen the mini mask for a C3.
I know there is a guy on Ebay that sells them cheap (Josh's Muscle Car Parts). He is not too far from me and I could make a daytrip here to check his stuff out. Or, we could ask Butch'sVettes (Butch) to do this since it is more in his neck of the woods. (Cleves Ohio)
This guy also has an online store called RPI DESIGNS. I just did buy some C5 stuff from him and had great service.
Another wild Azz idea that I did prior to new bumpers and paint is to fill the crack with rubber silicone and paint it. I did this for well over a year before I got ready to restore the car.
My car was silver at the time and the cracks weren't to forgiving. I have to admit it didn't look to bad until you were standing on top of it looking down. Just a thought...

The reply email was, "The mini mask, 612-632, does come with a screen over the front grill vent. This screen will, however, allow air to pass through it. Consequentially, your engine should not get any hotter than it does already."
I am planning on using it mostly on the highway.
I put a full Bra mask on a Berlinetta I had one to cover a small rust area and dent, worked out well. I never did end up fixing the area just left the Bra on. As long as they fit good they usually look good.
Thanks all for the comments. Right after I posted last night I decided to look at Mid America and sure enough they had the mini mask. It's only $60 so I figure it's worth a try. I agree the thing to do would be to buy a tru-flex and have it painted to match, but I bet I'd be out at least 5 bills by the time I'm done. And then I'd have to put it on.
Anyone out there have pics of an installed mini mask (other than what they show in Mid America)? If not, I'll post some of mine when I get it.
