Vette(s): 1976 Silver/Firethorn. L48, 4spd. Original 2 bolt, vortec heads, 9.4:1 CR, Speed Pro Cam: 224/224@0.050, 112 LSA, Eagle Steel Crank.

I've got decent paint on my '76 (had it painted 4 - 5 years ago) but I stupidly did not replace the front bumper cover and now it's cracked right down the middle, it's wavy, and it looks like it's going to crack in another spot.  Rather than paying a fortune for a new cover and then another fortune to get it painted to match, I'm thinking about a bra.  What I'd really like is one of those bras they have for C5's that just covers the nose and doesn't go up past the headlights, but I haven't seen one for sharks.  Has anyone ever seen anything like that?  If so, please let me know.  Or if you have another idea....Confused

Anyone out there using a bra?  Do you have to do something to the headlight flaps every time you use the lights?

I knew I had seen one in Mid America's catlaog, so I clicked on the vendor link and found this in a matter of seconds.  I think this is what you're looking for.  Good luck!

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Mid America is the only place I have seen the mini mask for a C3.

I know there is a guy on Ebay that sells them cheap (Josh's Muscle Car Parts). He is not too far from me and I could make a daytrip here to check his stuff out. Or, we could ask Butch'sVettes (Butch) to do this since it is more in his neck of the woods. (Cleves Ohio)

This guy also has an online store called RPI DESIGNS. I just did buy some C5 stuff from him and had great service.

Another wild Azz idea that I did prior to new bumpers and paint is to fill the crack with rubber silicone and paint it. I did this for well over a year before I got ready to restore the car.

My car was silver at the time and the cracks weren't to forgiving. I have to admit it didn't look to bad until you were standing on top of it looking down. Just a thought...

As I stated in another posting............WOMEN and cars are better WITHOUT bras...............flaunt what you got!!!! I'm just messing with you, just be careful to remove the bra occasionally due to other problems with paint. Use it only when neccessary to protect your beauty! corvette440hp2008-03-03 13:59:40

OK, here is my 1976 with the bra in place and I will never drive without it on a longhaul..This is at the Pigeon Forge meet 2 years ago. I first cover the nose with clear 3m guard then the bra, without the clear guard the vibration of the bra will bruse the paint. I have 15,000 miles with the bra on after a costly paint job. and the car is now ready for the trip to Hot Springs and the bra is in place. When you need lights you roll the flap down and hook with the holders on the bra, it will not come off at high speeds..

I ordered the mini nose mask from Mid America last friday. I had sent them an email asking if it covered the grill, telling them my concerns of overheating because the picture looked like it did cover it.
The reply email was, "The mini mask, 612-632, does come with a screen over the front grill vent.  This screen will, however, allow air to pass through it.  Consequentially, your engine should not get any hotter than it does already."
I am planning on using it mostly on the highway.
I put a full  Bra mask on a Berlinetta I had one to cover a small rust area and dent, worked out well. I never did end up fixing the area just left the Bra on. As long as they fit good they usually look good.

i tried the same thing last summer.  i was basically trying to put a bandaid on a bad wound.
i got the full mask and thought it would look better with the headlight flaps taken out.  big mistake!  it rose up when i drove.  then i tried a mini mask (knowing full well they didn't make them for a '74 but they did for a '75)  i tried it anyway and of course it didn't fit.

finally i said "screw it!  got a tru-flex bumper and i love it.
for what it's worth - just bite the bullet and replace it if it is bad.

Thanks all for the comments.  Right after I posted last night I decided to look at Mid America and sure enough they had the mini mask.  It's only $60 so I figure it's worth a try.  I agree the thing to do would be to buy a tru-flex and have it painted to match, but I bet I'd be out at least 5 bills by the time I'm done.  And then I'd have to put it on.

Anyone out there have pics of an installed mini mask (other than what they show in Mid America)?  If not, I'll post some of mine when I get it.

Yes the mini mask is what I was thinking about getting some day cause it covers just what you need to cover (an ugly front bumper).
