You have to clean them VERY often!! Especially if you live in an area where there is a lot of sand. The inside (soft fuzzy) captures the sand/dirt and acts like a scotchbrite pad on your paint!! A good friend of mine had one on his red '79 Trans Am and after our trip back from Spring Break in Florida (yes, this was many years ago...and yes they did have car bras back then!!)
he got home and removed it for cleaning and the yellow urethane bumper was showing on both corners!!
After that I never had the desire to put one on any of my cars!!

Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I've always been leary of car-bras.
I had a suspision that what Mark said could happen.
It seems like you are better of taking the risk of a single stone hitting ya, then having your entire front end covered by a dust magnet!

My first Vette, now owned by JB79:

I feel the same way about my car as I do my wife....NO BRA. Makes me happy.

After three seasons, I haven't detected any damage to the paint whatsoever. The key is to have the bra fit as tight as possible. Before installing mine I had a local canvas/tent shop sew in extra webbing loops. This allows me to take up any slack that might arise. It does fit like a glove (sorry O.J.). I remove the bra only twice a year for buffing and waxing. The only difference between the paint under the bra and the paint on the rest of the Vette is no new chips under the bra. I would never run a long cruise without one thats for sure. And yes I do like the contrast the bra provides on the orange paint, I think it looks good. Even been told so by Vetters who normally don't like bras. Rick

I see a lot of them for sale on EBAY. Use search engine there and type in 74 corvette, and see all the goodies that come up. I've been looking at them and like the looks of the Orange one on here. There are 2 on EBAY now for my 79 so might just snag one. I already have he chip on the nose so this would be to cover them till I decide what to do with them. Happy motoring.

I'd like to get one for the 82 for the long trips. I see that Ecklers has them for $80. Are all bras created equal? I just assume a bra is a bra. Please correct me.

Are all bra's created equal?? Now guy what do you really think.. rotflmao..
I agree with Tangee Rare doesn't go on long runs with out it, I mean she is over 20 years old now and gravity after twenty years with .. never mind
I ordered one that has the small air dam on it, I've tried others but these seem to fit the best. I constantly check the tightness to be sure everything fits nice and snug, any flapping will cause rubbing of the paint and damage.
If you car has a clear coat paint job, you don't have to worry about the paint job clouding, but if you have a laq. paint job, GET THE BRA OFF if it gets wet, I know this from personal experience, it CLOUDS THE PAINT. Last year BLACKDOG and I ran our cars from California to Bowling Green, the dawg left his bra on his BLACK 1980 the whole trip, rain & hale, his car has been repainted and looks as good as when the bra first went on. I left Rare's bra on through a down poor in New Mexico and didn't get it off before it steamed dried in the Texas sun.. I finally have the Cloud Effect almost all polished out. grrrrr.
