Sometimes drilling a coupla holes and installing a coupla screws for a total cost of 50 cents makes more sense than spending over $100 to get basically the same look and functionality.

I guess Bubba is practical.
(And/or poor.)

By the way, by the looks of your Vette you're not shooting for NCRS. No matter, that is one sweet looking Vette.

Thanks! I am shooting for NCRS, but in my case, it stands for "Not Correctly Restored Stingray!"
Unfortunately, with work being the way that it is, the closest I get to the car right now is this forum. I had plans to have it ready for Cruising the Coast this year, but it looks like 2014. I have two transmission cooling lines to connect and then start and break in the engine, then get the car ready for paint. So close I can taste it.
Fortunately, my Dad is a Vetteaholic so I live vicariously through him. He has an '04 Torch Red Convertible, a '69 350 4-speed coupe, and a '69 427 Convertible. I get my Vette fix occasionally! :)

I sorely need a paint job and minor body work. About $6500 should do it. I'm sorely tempted to go to our vettefest show and shine with this sign. "Soon to be retired enthusiast needs to continue restoration. Anything helps." Not to disrespect truly needy people but I'm also stalled due to lack of funds. Sigh...

My bezel has been broken at that location below the vents since before I bought the car. Fortunately I've taken it apart and put it back together numerous times and I always seem to get it back together so it's not noticeable. requires some jockeying, though. I concur, I'll go with the Bubba move in this case, no reason to replace that particular part at this particular juncture....
Oh good. I have a co-conspirator. I hate to drill those holes but... I hate the ill fitting bezel more.

Bubba is outdoing himself on my car. Tranny leak. One of the leaks is coming from the shifter. Tranny guy checks it out closely and finds that there is no seal. Thus the leak. AND... Bubba apparently tried to seal it himself using... wait for it... EPOXY! Tranny guy doesn't know yet if there is a crack or a chunk taken out of the case or whether Bubba was just trying to create his own seal.
More later as the saga unfolds.

Well, I have some answers. I went to the shop and I saw my tranny laid out in all of its glory.

Bubba did not try to build a seal with epoxy. At some point he decided to remove the shifter seal but, without benefit of the proper tool he did it with a screw driver or a chisel. He did a lot of damage to the case and he put a big gouge and left a large burr in the shifter shaft.
When he put the tranny back together he inserted the seal and because of the damage he had done the seal didn't seal. So, he covered it with epoxy hoping to stop the leak.
Now I get to buy a new shaft and new tranny case. I guess the good news is that this 42-year-old tranny with 147,000 miles on it was completely original and could probably use a face-lift anyway.
I was given the option of just putting in the necessary parts and put it back together or doing a rebuild. I chose to put in a new shift kit. The expensive hard parts are fine. But as long as I have to have it torn apart to fix Bubba's little adventure I may as well come out of it with a new transmission.
Goober and Gomer for sure. Even Bubba knows better than this.

What kind of $$$ are they wanting to do a "Shift Kit"? Gotta be careful....all it takes is drillin a couple of holes a little larger, and removing a couple of springs to make one shift pretty firm. That don't really cost anything. If you buy a commercial "Shift Kit", it could cost quite a bit, and you'll wind up with the same shifts as the no-cost deal....
just throwin that out there....don't wanna see anyone get the shaft(no pun intended).
