OK, heaven forbid, but lets go a different route. We tried the corvette way, so now lets try the camaro and chevelle way. Look up some camaro and chevelle web sites and ask those folks. There has to be someone out there that has a car with this dealer code and zone number. (I doubt a dealer sold only one car). Of course from what I understand, the dealer codes and zone numbers could change over time as GM restructured at times.

Anyone have any of the web sites that they can share with us as we just can't give up on this one.

Mark

OK, it's cold outside and I have WAY too much time on my hands. I have been doing an unscientific search for zone 31-519. Using the NCRS link mentioned above I was able to determine that there were no zone 31 dealers (listed at least) in Tennessee, Georgia, or Mississippi. A couple turned up in the Florida panhandle directly below Alabama. In Alabama 31 seemed to turn up mostly in the eastern half of the state with some turning up in the north. Birmingham, in the middle of the state was mixed. There was a 31-523 is Scottsboro in the far northeastern corner. Jackson County. I would search for any dealers in Jackson, Madison, Dekalb, and Marshal Counties in the NE corner. Dealers seemed to be grouped together when I was able to find consecutive numbers in other locations. I would think they would be grouped together around that 523 also. If you do a Directory Search 80 dealers and there phone numbers turn up in Alabama. You only need to concentrate in that one group of counties.(I think!)The dealer may not even exist anymore or they might not want to even give out any info. But it might be worth some phone time. I know I emailed a dealer about one of my cars once. Didn't have the info that I was looking for but they were pleasant about it. Put it off long enough now, have to go out and shovel some snow. Mike

OK, I'm back. While checking out zone 11 for the Chicago area I stumbled upon Wilcox Inc. He states an offer to help anyone looking for dealers in zone 22(long story, look it up). Maybe contact him and possibly get some help as to how the system works, at least? Maybe he can direct you in the right direction. He might know if my "grouping" theory is correct. He is a recent member of the registry. If you're looking to get any info on your Vette tho, I don't think you'll find any. I seem to have developed an addiction for this! |confusing| Mike

Thanks a lot Mike! Your search seems to point to Alabama. That's where it was last registered prior to me. I bought it from a broker in Tenn. back in 87 or 88. I have the sticker, so I'm certain the car is legit, people weren't cloning 68's in the 80's. I'd really like to trace it to the original owner!!! |headscratch|

OK, how's this for a shot in the dark? I located a Corvair club in the Birmingham area and sent them a request to help. Like I said earlier, the car was registered in Alabama prior to me and your research is consistent with that area. I'm not giving up yet! |withstupid|
