Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.

Anyone, Did the 72' basic body have a build sheet stuck to the fuel tank like some of them did from the assembly line? What is the likely ability to find it? I am in hopes to locate it.

From what I know all C3s had a build sheet attached to the top of the gas tank.  By removing the filler connection you should be able to use a light and a dentist-type mirror to look around some.

Build sheets were also known to be found in other places as well.  Almost all of the places required some disassembly of the car to find them.

There are several threads on the site that have discussed this topic before so if no one else replies to this thread you could do a search for them.

btw - on "The Toy" I've had the ride side of the dash apart, re-foamed and covered the seats, and pulled/replaced the carpeting without seeing a build sheet.  I'm still hoping to find one.

If the fuel tank was ever dropped by a PO, the sheet is likely gone.
Do you know the history of the car?

I am still looking for the build sheet. I have used the mirror approach and came up blank. I am preping the body for new paint, so I am looking in some of the possible places. I know very little about the car, except for how I bought it. Any other suggestions will be welcome.

The 68-72 models used a tank sticker in 8x11 portrait format which was glued to the top of the fuel tank as shown below.

During the 1973 model run, the format changed to landscape and additional information was added to the sticker.  They were too wide to be glued to the top of the tank, so they began taping them to the fronts.

Copies of build sheets have been known to show up in screwy places.  This one was stuck in the spring mount.

You have to remember tank stickers were never meant to be permanently attached to the car.  They were temporary aids to assembly line workers.  Your sticker could have blown away in the wind years ago.  IF you find something on the tank, it may or may not be legible and it may or may not be complete.  Nice to have though.

Copies of build sheets have been found tucked in the wiring behind the speedo/tach, tucked in the wiring behind the center cluster, behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs under a seat, and under the carpet in the rear storage area.

Good luck with the hunt.
