...Bottom line is make sure you are dealing with a reputable company.

Thanks! I have the good fortune to be dealing with an absolute top-of-the-heap shop.

I just have not had a chance to check with them.  Embarrassed
Have you talked to them about it? ...You might be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks, Tux. I do know who I'll be working with. It's a GREAT shop, with a GREAT reputation; Tony's Corvette Shop in Gaithersburg, MD.

And they've already done an expensive chunk of work that made the car road-worthy again and got it through state inspection. So I've been able to get out and enjoy some of the beautiful Spring weather.

As was reccommended to a recent new-owner who was "gifted" an '80 'vette, I have been focusing on mechanicals likes brakes before worrying about cosmetics!!  Smile

But being good they are real busy, and I travel a lot.

I haven't had a chance to check-in with them.  Embarrassed
just another thought here. a lot of shops do not like using customer supplied parts...
Exactly why I was concerned.

i have had experience with both sides of this. went to one shop and had no problems with suppling parts where as another shop won't let you. with the shop that does not let you it doesn't really bother me as they are "honest". they have not jerked me around finding a lot of things wrong that weren't. and sometimes had the one of the mech's tell me on the side to pick up an oddball part as it would be cheaper. sometimes it is better to pay some more for the part and get better service. also they don't pad the labor charges. in fact on one of my cars they sat and checked my a/c for over an hour and never charged for it. eddie208752007-04-21 05:32:10
