There was another change that took place between '68 and '69. The ignition key which was on the dash board was moved to the steering column and kept there till the C5s.

Deb, wow, now that would interesting! How much was the conversion kit?
What about those little key holes that were for the alarms I think???? I've seen them on the flat, face part of the tail, and also on the fender near the badging. When were those moved and from where to where? Been curious about that for a while now! lol

Vette(s): 1973 coupe Under Construction
Thanks for all of the info, the main reason I asked is that I was looking at a 68 convertible that had all of the markings of a 69. The VIN on the car would indicate a 68. When I questioned the seller about it he said that a previous owner really wanted a 69 and so he modifies it to look that way. It seems like the stingray badging would be easy to do, but moving the ignition switch sounds like unnessecary work. I have decided to keep looking

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Dar,
I believe the key activated alarm on the fender moved in 1977, to the door unlocking keyhole, by the door handle. That is where mine is.. To turn on the alarm, and lock the door, you insert the key, and turn left, and remove the key. If the hood is open, door is open, t-tops out, the alarm sounds immediatly. It has to be closed up tight, for it to work properly... then if you would leave the window open, and someone reached in to open the door from the inside, the alarm would sound. The only way to turn it off is with the key. It isn't very loud though. I don't know why I told you all of this, you have one, don't you?

You're right, mine's exactly the same. I was just wondering what years had those other types and where they were located. I could swear that I've seen them on the flat part of tails in flat window cars. I think I saw it at a show, so I don't know if it being on the tail is a custom thing or a factory one. ????

I have a 1970 and my alarm key hole is on the tail in the center. Alot of people who don't know vettes ask if it is a trunk lock. I am not sure how long it was on the back. If I were to guess, I would have to say 1974. The reason for that is the rear bumber was no longer fiberglass. It was a 2 peice rubber design. I would think that they would no longer be able to have them there.
