I use American Collectors for my 76. I pay $86 per year based on an agreed value. My car was damaged recently when in for repairs and they sent me a check within 2 weeks. There is no deductible.

Qualifications

Your collector vehicle (original or modified) may qualify if it is:

At least 15 years old*
Garage-kept
Driven no more than 2,500 annual miles
* In Massachusetts vehicles must be at least 25 years old to qualify.

You may also qualify by:

Having at least 10 years driving experience
Having at least one "regular" vehicle for every licensed driver in the household

Got a quote online from Hagerty's Insurance just last week.

Agreed value = $9,000.00
No deductible
Maxed liabilities
Under 2,500 miles per year
All they said about work was that you can't drive it for business purposes.
Quoted price = $270.00 per year in Michigan

I guess I must fall into the minority on this issue. I bought my car to drive. I have street plates ( vanity plates actually my69vet ) and I pay for a full policy from State Farm. The '69 actually costs me less than my policy on my Jimmy for an agreed replacement of $25,000.00 with a $250.00 deductible. Why do I pay just over $600.00 a year instead of under $200.00? I drive the car ! I drive it to work and if it gets stolen from the parking lot, I will get a check for full value. If my wife and I are out for a drive and we want to stop at the local mall and someone hits the car in the parking lot, it will get fixed. You can not do that with collector insurance. Well, at least not most policies. They pretty much allow you to go to "events". If you happen to stop at the mall or a Dairy Queen on the way home from a cruise and the car is stolen even with less than the alloted 2500 miles driven, I would not want to be in your shoes when you try to collect.
Call me crazy ( go ahead everyone else does ), but I hate restrictions. Just because it is an older car does not make me a worse driver or cause my chance of someone hitting it to increase. It may slightly increase the chances of it being stolen but probably not as much of a chance as one of the newer cars that are worth 8 times as much in parts as they were worth new from the factory.
Yep, I will play the dollars game with the insurance companies cause for an extra $33.00 a month it allows me to drive the car whenever and where ever I want to without worrying.
Sorry.....that went on longer than intended.

Glenn, Hagerty doesn't put the Vette events and shows restrictions on their policies. So I doubt that claims would be hard to settle with them. Plus, they have the added benefit of being able to submit your claims online, if you want.

See, I pay just over $600.00 a year right now through Farmer's, and they still put restrictions on it as a luxury, recreation vehicle. I have four cars, a boat, my home, and a mobile home insure through them and I still can't get a break.

Let's all face it...the insurance companies have us by the short hairs, claims are never easy to get settled because they find it as hard to part with our money as we do, but if I can save $400.00 a year to spend on something else, or save it as the case may be, then I have to just to feel that I'm not doing myself a disservice. Why else would most of us be paying for 9/11 with increased premiums?

I agree with Glenn. I bought my car to drive and also have street plates. I have a regular policy with Progressive. I drive my Stingray everyday. I had collector insurance for the first few months i owned it but was aways worried about running out of mileage (2500) with my policy. i bought my C3 to drive and enjoy. I plan on enjoying it now and not worrying about tomorrow because you never know bwhat tomorrow may bring and you may not get a change to enjoy it. I have had too mayny friends say thay someday they will do this or that and something unexpected happended and now they never will live out their dreams.

SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
"The Toy" has been covered by MetLife (Metropolitan Casualty Insurance Company) since the day I bought it back in April of 2000. I carry full coverage on it just like the rest of the family fleet with the same deductibles and options. The driving season premium is under $60 a month and the storage premium is next to nothing (for comprehensive only). Just a phone call is needed to reinstate (in the spring) or suspend (in the fall) the full coverage.

i have the type of ins that u mention. it goes according to the$ value of your car. u need a professional appraisal and 10 yrs driving the car must be a certain age, you can't drive it to work, the corner store and such. before i continue i must inform u that this is a canadian company so it may not apply to u. i have a 75 with full coverage, my car is appraised at $7800 cnd and i pay $94.00 a year. if u want to chk it out yourself go to www.lant-ins.ca . if this doesn't work get back 2 me and i will look into it 4 u! |cheers|

I have had all of my older(collectible) cars with American Collectors for many years. I have had 2 claims over the years. One small one with the '64, a windshield and tow, and a rather large one with the '70. I had the left front tire blow at about 65MPH,just can't trust them 20 year old tires. In both cases I had the checks in under 1 week. With the '70 it was close to $8,000. Great service and no reprecussions from the claims at all. I highly recomend them.
