This post was prompted by a number of posts I've read here as well as personal observation but there is a big difference in corvette OWNERS and corvette PEOPLE. Corvette people are like those in this forum, their vettes are more than mere transportation, more than the sum of their pieces, regardless of condition. They are CORVETTES, not mere cars, they are something special that deserve a second look, a turn of the head as it passes, and a wave from one corvette person to the other. The corvette OWNERS on the other hand are those who dont know the difference in a car and a corvette. To them it's just another vehicle, perhaps leased, that gets them from point A to point B. They wonder why all of those idiots are waving at them when they pass another vette. They dont have that inner appreciation for the special qualities of their vettes, to them it's just another car... what a shame.

Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.
2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
Even someday when my '74 is paid for, I still hope I never become an "OWNER" in the sense that you just described!
I couldn't agree more, it just makes me wonder, what on earth prompts someone to become an owner if they're not a Corvette PERSON to start with?
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Worse than that, is you join a local Corvette Club, as I did and the majority of the members in the club are driving C5 and C6's and all they want to do is cruise to restaurants to eat, not many gearheads!
But the Coup de Gras was when the President of that Club told me at a primarily Vette car show in New Orleans earlier this year that "I should get rid of my car and buy a C5, C6. Anything older than a C5 was trouble."

I looked him dead in the eye and told him I had no interest in the new crap he was driving. I again mentioned to him that the 300 plus hp he has and the 32 mpg he has is great, but I work on my cars, I don't bring a vehicle to a dealer for repairs as these folks do and most folks love our year Vettes versus the new stuff."

Needless to say, he was not happy of my response, but he has a new found respect for me.
I am a Vette Person as I have always loved C3 Vettes and older.

my .02
I was at "fall carlisle" last year (approximately a month after "corvettes at carlisle) and i was speaking with a rep from "adams' detailing products".
He did not know I have a vette and i asked him how business was this particular weekend. he said, "we're not nearly as busy as we were at the corvette show." "Man, those corvette people are hardcore about their cars."
it put a smile on my face 'cuz i knew i was one of the "hardcore" he was talking about.
Cilrah = Corvette Person. One who would sleep with his Corvette if his wife wouldn't leave him for it.

That's the key in my book!
I sat at a stoplight recently. Me on one side, a C5 on the other side..... It was a long light, just the two of us. Light changes we pass in the center with me waving.....the other guy looked away!
