Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
The guy next door to me sold his Camaro to someone in Texas about 4 weeks ago. The buyer had Fed X pick it up. Both sides were happy. I saw them load it up. Enclosed and very professional operation.
I thought Fed  X only delivered stuff that would fit in a cardboard box.

What was the cost?  I assume Fedex ground.

He didn't share the cost with me. Long way from Maine to Texas. Also, the driver said the car stays with him on his truck till it gets where its going.
Fed X is pretty big. Maybe you can go online and get a rough idea??

FedEx does carry cars. But when I got bids from several companies to transport our two Vettes coast-to-coast, they were the most expensive, by a significant margin.

I ended up using DAS (Dependable Auto Services). I was a little leery, not just because they were the cheapest, but because I'd read a couple of negative things about them online. But they were individual anecdotes, and I'd also read several positive postings. Plus they were a vendor our moving company had as one of their recommendations. So I decided to go ahead with them.

We couldn't have been more satisfied. Absolutely dependable, and very thorough and careful how they loaded the cars. (On an open trailer--but I elected to go for the option that put them both on the upper rack, so as to avoid any oil/coolant/trans fluid/brake fluid leaks getting on them from being down below.) They arrived on time, and with zero damage.

So when they go back (soon, fingers crossed!), I'll be inclined to contract with DAS again.

Just my $.02. There are certainly other carriers that come highly recommended (Horseless Carriage, Thomas C. Sunday among them). And as I was reminded from the moving company that hauled our household belongings, it all comes down to the individual drivers and loaders. Get good ones, as I had every time before, and you're fine. Get otherwise, and you're vulnerable to problems.

Good luck with your move...

Isn't Terry (from Alaska) in that business ? If not, I'd bet he has a little experience in that field to pass on.

I had Passport (FedEx) deliver a '72 coupe from Boston to outside of Orlando, FL.  The cost was $1400.  Horseless Carriage was the same price, and all the others that quoted me were $600-$700.  Passport and Horseless Carriage deliver in an enclosed trailer, and the car stays in the same trailer from pickup to delivery.

Glenn -- For what it's worth, I found a guy that shipped mine in an enclosed trailer who was very good.  I'd ship with him again.  He was not the least expensive, but still reasonable and very conscientious.  I think he lives in Ohio but travels coast to coast.  He might be able to haul yours.  If you're interested, PM me and I'll dig out his contact info.  If he'll do it, you won't be dissapointed! Mike
