I have been piecing together a history on by 1971 corvette. The build sheet is not around and GM lost its records. A past owner gave be the selling dealers name and the shipping date. I wanted to find out the dealers GM # but he has not returned calls or e-mails. Its City Chevorlet now City Auto Group in Chicago was anyone elses car bought through this dealer? Is there an index to look it up? I'am I asking for something that is none of my business? Its info I think thats on the build sheet.

As current owner of the car I personally think that it is well within your rights to track down the history of your car. But because GM did such a poor job of record keeping at the St. Louis plant every current owner of a car built there is at the mercy of previous owners to share information.
I've owned "The Toy" for 2 1/2 years now and still haven't seen the info on it that the previous owner said he'd send to me as we were signing the paperwork. Over the winter I plan to start tracking back through motor vehicle records to piece some history together. Don't know how successful I'll be, but it will pass some of the time 'til spring when I can roll "The Toy" out of winter storage for another driving season.
Good Hunting...!!!
