Vette(s): 1980 Frame Off Restore, Gun Metal Grey with Dark Red interior. 350 four bolt with forged pistons, Crane Cam, 1990 Tuned Port Injection System, Headman Elite Headers. Fairbanks Automatics, Detroit Locker Rear, High Performance Suspension.
I bought a 80 California 305
. Nuff said, I changed everything. It is now pushing 500 HP and dressed the way it should have been when new
. Its all about the drivability and the fun. After all true Vette lovers don't buy them for the investment and I don't take mine to get the groceries.

I already replied (I think early in this thread)....
But all 5 of my Corvettes are NOT stock... BUT all look stock...
My 64 is a fully documented car BUT that did not stop me from installing disc brakes in the front
I kind of like o know I can stop ...
My 72 is running a '68 327 350 because I blew the original engine in the mid 70's and I wanted a more powerful engine anyway PLUS I painted it another "stock" color
My 76 is a low optioned car...so I added the optional wheels and repaintedit the same color BUT a much darker shade...and I replaced the roof panels with Moon roofs...because I like them and they are different..
My 79 came from the factory with pace ar spoilers front and back all All I did was repaint it in the original color and add wire wheels (look great but are a major PITA to clean)
My 98 is only modified under the hood (Steet Legal Performance "Zl 5" package and exhaust Plus 2000 style wheels
My dream car however is a 61 or any Mid Year on a completely modern chassis and drive train...
Gotta LOOK original and like a Vette or else I'd buy Cobra replica or a 34 ford coupe...

Bump for a nice collection! That is the beauty of this hobby - you can chose what you do to your car making it very presonal. Your stable looks great by the way! I think doing a retro mod at some point would be pretty cool. The aftermarket chassis that are available allow the drivetrain, suspension and wheel/tire combos to be as up-to-date as you want. Stay true to the cult man!

Also, I'll be getting this car on the dyno this spring. I am guessing it is a 400hp-450hp car. It's got a pretty hot 355 in it - all aftermarket pieces. The original LT1 motor is in an engine bag in my garage. If I decide one day to go back to stock, I've got the matching numbers route covered.

As has been said, I prefer them to be the way Zora built them. That being said, from there, it would all depend on the condition of the car as it sits. If it is an original car, or dang close to it, my opinion is it should stay that way. If the car has been modified, or is just too far gone from original, then have at it, and do whatever YOU want.
In general, I would much rather see originality, but tasteful mods are also nice.

Adam, I think if Zora had the technology and the parts he would have put them on the car.
For me . the styling is perfect but i like to upgrade mechanics and performance to better the car and the DRIVING experience.

Vette(s): my wife had her 1979 Corvette since new,it was a demostration model on the lot she bought it from so it had 5000 KMS already. It it that very light blue with a L48 Auto
My wife wants all the things like the body shell stock,no rear spoiler etc, just the way it came from the factory but we will upgrade the suspension parts, brakes etc, keep the factory wheels and do some upgrades the the engine, cam, exhaust, air condition upgrade etc nothing drastic and keep that really cool light blue that it came stock with.My wife will really take care of it when it's done this time around (NOT that she didn't first time around)and not use it as a daily driver that she did the first time around. It will be stock looking but much more shiny, detailed and a little more punch to it and more of a road car....
"I Wanna Go Fast"
Sounds just like my wife! She wants the exterior and interior to look stock but doesn't mind me modifying the suspension, brakes, etc. She did make me keep stock style exhaust componets but I did get a high flow cat and all is stainless steel. Small prices to pay for marital bliss!

I voted for the tastefully modified...which I take can look stock/original, but may have modern day technology to keep the car running and looking good. Here are some examples:

My '82 has been repainted, to factory matching Silver, Code 13, so, while the paint is no longer 'original', it looks it.
Along with that, I took out the catalytic converter and made the exhaust true 'dual. It might mess with the ECM and smog devices as far as trying to compensate for the missing converter, but the car seems to run just fine, and better! I can always restore it back by adding a converter later.
I've changed out the wheels for new aftermarket, but yet I maintain the original look of the slots. The older, original slots could not be restored.
I was also lucky enough to purchase GM replacement T-tops that are exact to the car and have never been installed on a C3. The originals were just to far gone to try and restore.
Probably within a year or two, the interior will be replaced to a factory original look and to code 132.
While I may replace parts here and there to update them, or paint things to make the car look more presentable, my intent overall, and eventually, is to make the car look like it can sit new on a showroom floor just like it did in 1982. And with my replica window sticker, I'm almost there! Other than what I've mentioned above, the car is matching numbers!
