Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
It was another embrassing moment in my lifetime. Had lights on the Vette, Daughter in the passenger seat, and the Grinch mask on, right on the main part of the parade route, the Veete dies and won't start (think I know why- I think the floor mat might have been pushed up under the clutch peddle and prevented it from starting) got a push from some guys in the crowd, pop clutch started and ran fine, except and this is where I would like so insight from the pros. It was smoking alot from under the car, smelled like burned oil, wiring, rubber, exhuast, ect. All guages read fine, all electrical worked fine, got her in the gargage removed the lights opened hood and looked around, for what I am not sure, but I did not see anything that looked out of place, didn't look like exhuast leaks or any major oil spills, no signs of burnt wires,??????

Would or could it have something to do with the fact that the vette was idling or at an idle for a long time(about an 1 1/2 from the time of start of parade to finish)??? would it have anything to do with my under the vette chambered exhaust???
Or the carb??? could I have built up so much back pressure from the exhuast tubes that they were leaking out from the engine or ?????????????????

thanks guys sorry I didn't get any pics of the Vette with lights on her. "Merry Christmas to all to all a good VETTE"

If you thoroughly checked the car out and found no problems, it could very well be due to parade, if you're not moving much, those smells will be more apparent. Think about this as well, you weren't the only car there, you could have been smelling someone elses problems.

Last time I did a parade in my '74, I thoought the clutch was gonna burn out of the car before we were done! |sad| It takes it's toll on the clutch AND your left leg to do a parade that moves 1 blk-per-hour. You may have been smelling & seeing a byproduct of that. Hope there's no damage to your pride OR Vette! |laugh| |thumb| |wavey|

Vette(s): 1973 Stingray Coupe and C5 and C6 Coupes.

Bummer about the parade. But these are what memories are made of. |laugh|

If you did a visual and didn't see anything I think the next step is to start 'er up and start doing the sniff test.

and if that aint slow enough.. low transfer makes it worse..

it makes since about the clutch, and as far as next year, I think I am going back to putting lights on her wheelchair and pushing her as the Grinch. I think we both had a better time.............. |smokin| |wavey|
