I got mine on ebay...... a '79. All I can say is that DONT BUY FOM CANADA! This guy screwed me running! I tried pressing charges and consulting a lawyer and still nothing has happened. I did get the car but I am still dumping money into it just to get it in the condition I thought I was buying. Oh well it will be sweet when I m done.

Sorry if I came across as branding all canadians as frauds. I just ment to caution others about how customs and different law enforcement can complicate a large transaction such as a vette purchase on ebay. I am sure most canadians are honest and trustworthy. That post was me just venting my frustations at a singular bad person.
Tumar can you say who the person was you bought your vett from?
Sorry to hear that man, I am from Canada and can tell you that there are lots of con men here as there are in the U.S. (regardless of the image painted of Canada in Bowling for Columbine as a completely lawful society!)
I am always surprised to see people buying and selling cars on eBay. There just seem to be too many variables to make a sound decision.
I was equally worried about making a cross border purchase with all the vehicle laws it kind of intimidated me from buying in the U.S.
I guess your experience can be a learning for us all. You are correct, it will be awesome when you are done with it!
Cheers!!
P.S. Go Leafs Go! Sorry I couldn't help myself. What would a message from Canada be without some sort of Hockey reference

Yes his name was Jesse Bone, if that is his real name. He was from Vancouver BC. He ran his racket off ebay. He sold me a black 79 corvette he claimed was numbers matching, gymkahana, l-82, new paint job, new interior, mechanically sound. All lies!! the numbers dont match! the paint and body are total crap that looks like he sprayed rustolium all over it. the car didnt even start. (lots of electical problems) The interior was even worse than the body. The funny thing was that I had spent hours talking to the guy about the car asking detailed questions and how well he fooled me. He sounded like he knew corvettes well. He even lied about the paint codes and engine block vin. He probably just looked up the numbers in a book for the car he was trying to sell and tell the victim the bull.... The 50 differnent pictures of the car he sent me werent even the car I got or at least the car at a much younger age. I had ebay shut his account down but he came back as a different identity. I found this out because I saw a auction that looked similar to my own and sent him a email with questions about the car, posing as a differnt person. He answered them signing "jesse bone." Again I got him shut down.
He is still trying to sell corvettes on ebay, namely c3's, along with several other classic cars. Right now I suspect him to be a seller called "dfergs56" as of 12/16/03 he is just selling a 65 white lincoln. I maybe wrong though but the auction look very similar to what my vette was sold in. Some colorful background and nice pictures of the car. The descriptions are also similar. the seller doesnt reply as jesse any more so I cant confirm it is him. He avoided my legal recourse by taking so long in delivering the car. It was excuse after excuse. It took 3 months for me to get the car after him saying 2 weeks. It was my mistake not to insist on a escrow. I made alot of mistakes about this auction. Word to you all, demand a escrowe or payment upon arrival. If you guys have any more questions about what else I did wrong please ask. I am not afaid to share this experience so you guys wont be screwed by him or someone else.

I wouldn’t be afraid to buy a car on ebay, but I would be prepared to fly or drive to the location before any cash traded hands, most sellers give 10 to 14 days to receive a down or full payment. This way you can walk away
I did this in a Audi A4 I won for 8k, I’m in San Antonio, car was in Houston. My wife and I drove over saw the car…car had been hit on the passenger side, looked like it was repaired by a 6 yr old. We walked away…

I hear of way too many scams on e-bay. Many crooks are selling stolem or sub-standard items there, and the law does catch up with a few but not nearly enough. I would never buy a car site unseen though. I am sorry to hear about your problems. This is my first post, I need to fix the size of my sig pic!
