Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.

I just won an auction on ebay, but I think it might be a scam. I made arrangements with the guy to pick it up Monday (5 days after auction close). He e-mailed me back saying he would send his address after he received payment. I'm not comfortable sending him  $150 then driving 4 hours each way trusting that he'll be home and that he gave me the same address and that it'll be as described.  Am I out of line here?

Thanks,

Matt

He has a decent feedback rating, but like you, I don't like the idea of not getting an address until after you make payment. He should be just as willing to take payment from you at the time you pick it up.

If he can't see the fairness and logic of you handing him the cash when you arrive, I wouldn't want to deal with him.

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.

i would only deal c.o.d.  after all he says pick up only so you have to see him anyway.  email him, make for arrangements if he is worried about shady people knowning where he lives agree or offer to meet in a publc place, make the exchange.  also i would have money order or cashiers check, for my own files and protections.

No Matt< you are not out of line at all. There are a lot of weird people out there  but it makes you wonder if he is hiding something . He only has a little over 100 on his feedback rating and its already got negatives. I think I would offer to bring cash to pick it up.

You are risking  a negative on your feedback by making him upset but as long as you are abiding by the auction rules you are in the clear it would seem.

Let us know how it turns out .

The guy's feedback is clean over the past 12 months.  I'd say he's legit.  But I like the suggestion of meeting in a public place if he doesn't want to give the address without payment.

Matt, I'm about 3/4 hour from Evergreen Park, Il. if you need someone to check it out for you. I could pick it up and pay for it for you, too. I have a big Dodge work van, would it fit inside on its side? Is it wider than 48"? Once picked up a hardtop for former member "Boatman" and everything went smoothly. Otherwise, tell the guy you need his address for mailing his payment, tell him you don't have Paypal. If I can be of any help let me know.  Mike

Thanks guys (especially Mike). The guy finally got back to me this afternoon and agreed to c.o.d. and gave me his address. I told him that I don't have paypal and I was afraid if I mailed a money order that it might not get there before I do (Monday). I've been ripped off on ebay before so now I'm a little more "educated".

Thanks for the input,

Matt
