I was wondering if anyone might have a picture of a 1969 Stingray built on or before September 1968.   My Stingray emblem is higher than the assembly manual shows.  There was a redesign in July according to the assembly manual and my question is:  could the position have been changed at some point after production?  I have repainted the car and took the paint down to the primer and then some.  I did not see any other holes in the fenders.
Any help would be appreciated.

Not likely that the emblem was moved after production if there are no indications of the "old" holes being filled. There would be evidence of the old holes on the inside of the fenders, regardless of how well the outsides had been filled. Even on the cars that had no radio, the factory "repair" to close the antennae hole is painfully obvious from underneath.
Is it possible that the fenders have been replaced?

Are you certain you car is a Sept. '68 build, and not a Sept. '69?

There is a possibility that the entire front clip was replaced, although I see no clear evidence of that.  Could have been done early in its life as it does not look new.  The paint that was on the car was consistant layers of old re-paint of the entire car and the old original.  The VIN is 194379S700325 so I am pretty sure the build date is Sept. 68.

My question is:  could there have been a change  in where the emblem was placed at the factory, at some point,  so that the early Stingray's had the emblem placed in a different place on the earlier cars?

It's entirely possible. Since the '69 was the first year they used the "Stingray" emblem, they may have changed the placement from the original intended location. I have no personal knowledge of that, but I would venture to guess that it could have happened.
Maybe someone here with a '69 will jump in and help, or at least take some measurements of where their emblem is, and the production date.

I'm pretty much snowed in for a day or so.  If I can get through the snows drifts between the house and garage tomorrow I'll take measurements off my '69.  It has a February '69 build date so it might be germane to the question.

darn...it's cold and deep out there!  Even one of the SUV's couldn't get through it.

Your spacing seems to be inline with the assembly manual for height, not sure about front to back.  Mine is around 4 1/2 inches above the vent.  If I am looking at the assembly manual right the emblem should be .71 inches above the body line, which would be close to what yours pobably is. Mine is considerably higher.
