Man,I finally got that Edelbrock manifold on,it seemed like it took forever.I must have gone back to Advance Auto 7 or 8 times, getting more parts for that manifold, plugs, adapters, fittings ,gaskets.finally got everything buttoned up this afternoon after work and fired her up runs good no leaks, and looks good along with those chrome valve covers, now I think I'll shop around for a low rise chrome air cleaner, that big black stock one just does'nt look right, and it does'nt clear the hood by much, any suggestions on an air cleaner ? Hello is anybody there ?Ron 78 38592.3375462963

Only suggestion I have is check with Summit, or Jegs. Moroso or Holley should have an air filter set-up that will drop far enough to fit under you hood, for less than $40-$50 bucks.

drop-base K&N, preferrably oval shaped, would be the way to go.

I have an Edelbrock Performer on my '78 and used the stock air cleaner, though with a chrome lid and K&N air filter inside it. The only problem (very minor) was the carb sits back slightly more than on the stock intake and slightly touches the shroud over the distributor. No big deal and it causes no problem.
If you want a different air cleaner, get a drop base as already suggested. Holley makes an air cleaner for installations with a clearance problem, but it is pricey (over $200).
