Just wanted to pass this along to the members of this forum.
Today I was out in the "vette lounge" as my wife would call it (garage), and I was cleaning bolts preparing to start reassembling the front end on my 74. I heard a pop and I looked over to my left and the cordless drill battery charging unit had caught on fire while plugged in. I guess it overheated or shorted out? Lucky I was standing there at the time! I normally just walk away and let it plugged in over night. Guess I need to change the way I use power suppy rechargers. Kinda scarey when you think about it. I can tell you I wont leave anything plugged in any more!

Wow talk about luck.....I guess.....Now I'd do a few things here. First Iwould thank the big guy, then do like norsky said and make it a habit to unplug any chargers like that if not in use. And just for dumb luck I'd buy a few loto tickets.

Talk about a close one. I leave my battery charger plugged in all the time, guess I will be changing my habits.

Wow.... that's scary.... I just called my insurance agent and increased the coverage on my garage. 
All jokes aside that shouldn't have happened. The charging unit should have a fuse in it that should have blown if an overload occured. Knowing that I think I would be giving the manufactuer a call to let them know of this.
They have a responsiblity to other folks in the advent this is a malfunction in multiple units produced. Shucks they might even replace your unit.
Please tell me it wasn't a Ryobi or a DeWalt!!! (That is what is in my Man Cave.....)
Another note: Charging instructions should be followed..... Overcharging of the NiCad batteries reduces the life of the battery. In most cases 1 hour would completly charge a dead battery of this type.

Makes me want to unplug my battery tender which is resting on top of my Corvette. The car won't be driven until May.
