OK we'll give this a try. Its the old dog can't learn new tricks syndrone. Just (yesterday) purchased an 82 TTop coupe with 125,000miles and what I believe is an original engine. At least the serial # on the block is the same as the corvette black book list. It will be a long term fixer and was wondering where to begin. It is being driven but needs some tender care and lots of cosmetic work. Suggestions as to where to start??
This little beauty joins the family which already has a 2004 Coupe.

First of all Hello and Welcome...
It would help to have some pics and a general description of the patient.
Safety items of course come first, cosmetic at the end...

Welcome tigerc3 to the group

Start with the brakes and make sure they are in good shape. Next move to the steering system and make sure it is tight. Be sure to check the rag joint which couples the steering column to the steering gear. Next check the rear wheel bearings, axle 1/2 shaft u-joints and drive shaft u-joints. Then the rear suspension parts. In other words, check and repair anything that keeps the wheels attached to the frame. After all the safety stuff is taken care of than you can move on the the fun stuff.

Let us know how it goes!
i can't offer any help with the vette, just here to say hello, the other vette heads can offer the help, i just take the blame for when they screw up, so i am pretty busy, LOL (laughing out loud)

What a great question!!!
When I bought my first Vette 3 years ago, the first thing I replaced was the steering wheel. That was because the original wrapped leather wheel was pretty grungy and worn.
Then I looked for other cosmetic things to replace; vent deflectors, wood grain dash, clean the seats and carpet, etc.
Then I started to notice the things that didn't work; dash lights, AC, heater, emergency brake, radio, oil pressure gage, etc.
After fixing most of those, I started having brake problems; master cylinder, porportional valve, front rotors, rear rotors.
Got the driver's seat rip fixed last winter.
Next I tackled the transmission leak; new pan, gasket and several seals later it seems to be good.
Back working on cosmetics again; wheels, interior touch up, exterior trim touch up.
Sometime before mid-June I need to replace all the hoses and belts.
The other night someone asked me if the timing chain had ever been replaced. Beats me.
I don't think it ever ends.

And I have left out half of the little things.
But I love her dearly and don't regret one minute of owning a Corvette.
Good luck with yours. We are here to help.
