On my way to this morning I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop operating a speed trap on a fairly busy road near my office. I didnt even see him until I was passing the trap but made eye contact with him and he waved me over.

I had to go another block or so to turn around so by the time I got back to him he had about 5 or 6 cars (actually minivans, SUVs and a Caddy). When I pulled up next to him he told me that he clocked me at 52 in the 30 and that he wanted me to go park down the road and pointed to a parking space about 75 feet away. I then waited while he wrote tickets to everyone he had pulled over, for the next 15 minutes. Finally he walked over to me, I had located my DL and registration and was waiting calmly expecting the worse, try to do the math....22 over the limit...could be expensive!

Well he walked up to the car and said "I have one of these in the garage Ive been putting back together for years" I knew then that I just dodged a bullet.
He proceeded to explain that he was sorry for making me wait so long but he had to write up those folks without seat belts, some even had kids in thier cars he said.

No, I didnt even get a written warning, he said that he have sent me on my way sooner but he didnt want any of the other people he pulled over making a stink over it.

He even told me that he didnt want me to think he was being a jerk, what a guy.

I have a lot of friends who are cops but I didnt know this guy, I did offer to give a hand with his project however.

Great way to start the day!!!! |thumb|

Many many years ago I was pulled over in my 66 Grand Prix for 61 in a 45. Yea, I got the ticket. But the Highway Patrol Officer was a car buff. We actually got to be friends.

One day on the way into work, I got pulled over. For what? I was early and taking my time, did nothing wrong. It was the same officer. He wanted to ask me a car question, and said he had a heck of a time getting hold of me, then spotted my car. We chatted on the side of the road about 15 minutes, cruiser lights flashing.

When I got to work no one would believe I didn't get a ticket, they all saw me stopped.

Cool story! When i was 17, new driver, I got pulled over by a police officer when I was not doing anything wrong either. I figured I must have started up too fast for him from the light. But no, he looked at my license, saw my first name and said aloud, "Wrong one!" The car was my older brother's, a 327 68 Impala, and they were looking for him for racing another car. He let me go right away to my relief. My older brother did eventually lose his license and learned a lesson the hard way. He had to walk for a year! |cheers| |wavey| |withstupid|

Okay, I'll admit it....

I'm guilty of pulling over cars for no apparent reason, but just the cool ones.

There was this sweet Shelby Cobra replica that a local man just finished one day, he was taking it out for a test drive, just got it off the rack, no inspection sticker, he thought he was nailed.

When I told him I just wanted to check out his car, he told me nervously that he just finished building it, and he'll get it inspected soon. I had to convince him that I REALLY just wanted to check out his car, which had a blown 502 bb in it.

He showed me every inch of the car at his shop for me, and even let me take it for a ride...

After shift ended, of course.
This job does have its benefits, besides free donuts.

Ive had a cop give the "light em up" hand signal at a stop light before..

when the car finally hooked up and stopping melting rubber (aka second gear).. he didnt pull me over... so i guess he was impressed...

I always wondered what was going through the minds of everyone behind us when I gave a vulgar display of power he didnt pull me over...

Back in 1965 I bought a new Mustang 2+2 Hi Pro. I got the car 4 weeks before introduction of the 1966 models due to the fact that my old car blew the motor and the dealer felt sorry for me. Besides, not to much difference from the 65 and 66. Got pulled over for smoking the tires at a light (I wasn't smart then either). Cop walks over and is about to write a ticket but when he saw the registration and it was the "new" model we proceded to talk cars and I didn't get a ticket. Just a please don't do that when I am on duty.
Great guy....
PS
I had to give up the car when Uncle Sam drafted me. Couldn't afford the payments...... |rollysmile|

I left out the best part....

My wife drives a Suburban and gets ALL of the tickets in my house, I drive two vettes and never get stopped.

I would have had to give up bragging rights and my ace in the hole when its time to renew insurance and she points to my toys. I always correct her that it her tickets not my cars that cost so much.
