Had a bad vette day yesterday.  Got to see what happens when an '81 corvette's  glass T top  comes unlatched at 60 mph. Ouch It was kind of like watching the space shuttle take off.  You know when you have lift off its starts off kinda of slow and than..... blast off !!  The only good part is it missed the car behind me( Thank God !) and landed on the side of the road before it shatter'd into a million pieces.  Got to all that through rear view mirror.  Now have to figure out what to do about replacing it.  Has anyone tried those one piece Thompson Astro Tops for C3's ?  Any feed back would be much welcomed...... Thanks Guys !!!

No experience that will help you but just reading your post made me draw up; just thinking of watching that shiny glass frizbee sail into the air and shatter. Tough luck deeboy.

Oh the HORROR doh  I could only imagine what that must have been like, this kinda stuff scares the     #%&*! outta me Unhappy
 
Sorry but I've never tried those one piece but I've seen all types from solid plexi-glass to folding canvas, good luck.  Oh ya I've even seen single T-Tops on eBay.

Not a pleasant sight I'm sure.
 
 Here is a place I did business with a few years ago I had good dealings with: www.corvettettops.com .  They sell new and used or single tops. Or if your frame is still good, they can refurbish that one.
 
 As for the one piece Thompson Astro top, I've heard more negitive opinions than good. Poor fit, rattles, etc.

i bought one of the astro tops and for the most part they are ok. fit on back corner on drivers side is a hair wide but  it is sealed fit. wish they could make an easier way to lock it down than with the knobbed screw. would be great if they had the latch like on the regular t-tops. delivery was fast too. look on ebay as i am pretty sure there are glass t-tops on auction.

        I lost a glass top on the freeway and yes, it's not a pretty sight. The web sight mentioned by Darryl81 is where I purchased my replacement top. The owner, Derek, is knowledgeable and runs a good business. Reasonably priced and quick shipping. I highly recommend him....

I have two r/l mirrored t-tops that I would like to sell.They fit late 77-82. If you or anybody is interested let me know. I have had the weatherstrip recently replaced but the knumbscull who replaced them scraped through the mirrored backing surface when he was removing the old weatherstriping. So there are some linier scratches around two edges on one of the tops. The glass was not damaged at all. Just the silver mirror surface. I will let them go for a resonalble price. On E-bay in perfect condition they are going for 700-1000+ used. Retail they are about $1200.00. I can make you a deal on them for $550.00 obo. Other than the scratches they are in excellent condition.custom762007-01-13 22:01:07

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
