I'm scared. Did it unlatch by itslf somehow ? Or was
there an unfortunate human factor ? If these can unlatch
by themselves I'd sure like some hints on how to prevent it.

I have the Astro Roof and like it for my purpose. (Sunny day driver only) It fits in the back of the car fine. If you get caught in the rain it leaks some over the windsheild visors. There isn't enough tightening ability for the amount of area that requires being sealed accross the windshield. I run this most of the time vs. the T Tops. If yours is mostly an inside car this is an inexpensive way to go. It also gives more headroom and a nice view of the world.
If you aren't looking for a perfect replacement Daryl's sounds like a good buy and maybe with some luck the one you need is the least scratched. This along with web-sites the guys have provided should put you back in business. Good Luck!!!

Being in CA you might want to look at the "umbrella" rain tops. They are much less expensive, store easy and go on and off quickly. Plus they block the sun to keep the heat out.
If you had the key locks for the latches, would that have kept the top from coming off?

Thanks everyone .... for ALL the replies and info And no, it was'nt a faulty latch, it was that "unfortunate human factor" that 'CeeDee' mentioned. Thanks again all, this is another example as to why C3VR is the best !!

Then there is the good side.A friend of mine has a black 79 with painted t-tops.He was doing some work on the engine and took off to test it without latching down the drivers side.Well it went flying. He watched the whole thing. It floated down to earth just as nice as can be and landed in a field of tall grass. Not a scratch on it.Never happen again.
Wish that had happened to mine...... landed softly in a field of grass that is
