Any vehicle damaged by Katarina and totaled by the insurance companies is listed by VIN numbers as being damaged by water - fairly easy to check out I just got to remember where to get the list

Hey Marc, if you've always wanted a Pace Car I Say "Check it out really good". I've wanted a Pace Car, lets see, ever since...................1978. But the last thing you want is a problem child. Make sure you look at the frame really good. Check the engine good and see how it drives. Also look into how much original equipment has been changed, if your like me and you want a Pace Car thats original as can be. They are worth more if kept in original condition.
The Pace Car came with an L-48 ( L=5th Digit) or a L-82 (4=5th Digit). The 8th and 9th digit must be 90 (Indicates Pace Car Option). The last 4 digits are the production #, this will be something between 0001 and 6502. Although 0001-0004 were the original Pace Cars and I dought its one of them.
My Pace Car is #4851. I paid 21K for mine, it had 92K miles but was in extremely nice condition. Well worth it to me. If you have any other questions about the Pace Car, send me a email or PM me, good luck

I'm gonna pass on this one. The VIN is 1Z87L8S902780, so it is a Pace Car, but time has taken its toll. Both trailing arms need to be rebuilt, both struts were bent (one at over 15*), Needs front and rear springs, lotsa surface rust on the frame, and that was just from a once-over and lying on the grass looking under the car. The entire exhaust system needs to be replaced. The guy at the car lot picked it up at the last swap meet in Moultrie, GA two weeks ago and had no idea what he was buying other than it was a Pace Car Corvette. He's got 13,500 in it (he says) and I wouldn't pay that much for it now. It just needs too much work. Somebody will see it sitting there and pay what he wants because the paint is in REALLY good shape, but the car needs more than just some TLC just to be a driver. Maybe some guy with the means to correct all that is wrong with it will get it and turn it around, but the best anyone can hope for is to just break even, and it is much more likely to be a losing proposition. I'm sitting pretty in my 77, and I'm still ahead of the money curve so far. That and I just don't want to start over from where I was three years ago when I bought mine. Maybe if I win the lottery, but then I could get an L82 Pace Car...
Thanks for all the replies, y'all. It's really good to have folks in your corner when you're thinking of dropping some serious coin on a classic car.
Very smart move Marc Last thing you probably need is a car you've gotta sink a fortune into just to make it a driver. It's a shame cause there are a bunch of 78 Pace Cars out there that have been laid to waste
Keep up the search though, this car is worth it

Wow on cilrah's info on the ebay Pace Car. I could never, well extremely unlikely, own a vehicle just to store it 25 years or so to just turn around and sell it. I love my Vette but I love to drive it! Spring is coming, cruizin' time!!
Take care and be safe. . .
