Man that SUCKS big time!!! I have AAA with the 100 mile towing. I used it a couple of times and all was well till I went over 100 miles. 159 miles from home to be exact. Bummer, but I have AAA. No prob I thought. I gave them a call and say I have the 100 mile attachment to my policy. I ask them if it is ok? They say noooo problem. The tow truck driver arrives and I tell him I have the 100 mile policy. He says noooo Problem. I take a ride with him for 159 miles. Noooo problem till I pull up to my driveway. "Oh there will be a overmilage charge" he says. UMMMM... ok... what $20..$50 NOPE ........
$254 dollars later I can have my car lowered off his truck. He was going to impound my car if I didn't pay him right then and there. He says AAA charges $4.00 PER MILE!!! Holy Crap!!They didn't tell you that in summer camp boys and girls. But they do with a smile after you find out.

Custom, when was this? My Gold package provides 1-200mi and 4-100mi tows. I just had to use them to get my truck to 71Shark's place. The guy did a good job and actually knew his stuff.
Maybe wrecker drivers are like McDonalds employees. It's a crapshoot as to whether you will get your food right or not.

AAA isn't really the problem. It is the wrecker drivers themselves. AAA may make some bad choices in hiring wrecker companies. AAA is still a great value for those of us that drive POS cars. Luckily my Vette has never been on one but I'm sure the day will come.
This happened last June. AAA does charge $4.00 PER MILE over the 100 tow miles. You might want to check out the fine print with your policy or call AAA direct and ask them. DNV I only have the 100 mile tow package so your policy may be different. Might want to be forwarned about your policy. Also watch the Tow truck driver and let him know what you want. Don't let him or her just throw a hook underneath and yank it. If you don't like what they are doing let them know.Take pictures if you have a camera. I had my lower control arm bent to crap cause the numbnuts hooked it there and I didn't see it till he got it up on the flatbed. I made them replace it and they were good enough to do it. On another call the same Shmuck came out to give a friend a jump and hooked the cables up bacwards! Nice shower of sparks!
I agree with 2 cruzn, the driver is responsible for his load, he has tomake sure everything is secured. Sorry about you're bad luck man, hope it all goes well for you

From the insurance world I'd say you have 2 options
A) Small claims court is a no brainer. Sue the Owner of the service, not the driver or the truck owner. Your contract is with the service provider, his contract is with the truck owner it is different. Did you get a police report, if not go do so.
B) Do this anyway - This is a legit insurance claim, it should be non-chargable. Your ins co will get their layout back in subrogation
C) Ask Joel about my friend who specializes in stubborn collections... lol but true..
YIKES!!

The man should be taken for a long walk off a short pier. Where's my cousin Vinny "the knife" Scarpucci when you need him!
