Topic: Garage lift anyone??
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
Hi all,
Any suggestions on a lift for the garage? (Two car, 8 1/2 ft ceiling). Not looking to install any type of four post lift. Something scissor type.
Thanks

Doesn't sound like you have much head room. What are your plans for it? "Quick Jack" has a couple available.
When my brother was buying one, he was told he needed a minimum of the height of both cars plus 3 inches.
Your garage door might get in the way.

We have a "basement" garage, with a height of just two metres. So we were limited on choice for a lift and I went with a Quick Jack.
I wish we had bought it years earlier! I went with the 5000 model as the smaller one has a borderline lift capacity for a C3. It has proved a godsend and, allows me to lift the car to a reasonable height for working under, while still fitting below the ceiling.
I went with a mains powered version, but it can be powered by a 12volt supply.

Because of a limited height provided by my garage roof trusses, I have a "Kwik-Lift" which I really like and was a very good price. I've had it for 10 years and it is very sturdy and versatile. With the optional wheel kit and jack trays you can move the unit around and jack the car up to remove the wheels. It adjusts for vehicle width and is also somewhat portable. You unbolt 8 bolts with nuts and it breaks down in half. During the driving season I park my car on it with wooden approach ramps that were built with the instructions provide. With the my 74 corvette you need a low profile, long reach floor jack to make it easier to lift. My 91 ZR-1 and all my previous British cars a normal low profile floor jack worked. I store the car on it during winter in the up position and take the battery out so the charger cord doesn't allow the rodents access.
The problem is when I went to their website they have stopped production due to steel prices.
Here is the link anyway so you can see what I have and maybe you can find a used one.

In March 2018 I sold my Kwik Lift and purchased a "Titan SL-6600" hydraulic scissor lift. lifts 6600 pounds, maximum lift height of 53 inch, so it gives me lots of room underneath. it uses 4 swing out arms to fit any vehicle. Has a 3hp motor, 110v but needs a 20 amp outlet. The only downside is the cross bars prevent you from dropping the transmission. All scissor lifts have a minimum height, this one is 6 inches, so I could not drive my 82 over the lift (I only have about 5 1/2 inch clearance). I had to lay two 2x10's to drive on to get the 82 enough height so the exhaust pipes cleared the lift. The company site is www.titanlifts.com but at the time I ordered mine it had to be ordered through a local distributor. They took shipment from the vendor and then came and delivered/installed it (required for warranty). its been a great unit, no problems with it.

I've just looked at the Kwik-Lift site and see that they have halted production for the foreseeable future, due to high steel prices!
The lift itself looked good, but there did seem to be "more of it" that the Quick-Jack, so a tad more limited access?
Unfortunately, a bit academic at the moment - perhaps they will re-surface with a new pricing structure.😄
I was offered a scissor lift some time ago, but I passed due to the scissor mechanism that would always be under the car and basically, in the way.
The ideal of course, is a two post lift, but I have neither the height or the confidence in the integrity of my garage floor! So, the Quick-Jack won out!😄

Can't get the tranny out with that kind of lift.
