Topic: Garage lift anyone??
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
Hi all,
I want to thank everyone who has given me some advice and tips. I have yet to make a decision but I really do appreciate everyone’s response. That’s what this forum is all about.

Can't get the tranny out with that kind of lift.
True. How many times do you take out your transmission? I did it once. Kind of silly to torpedo an option based on an extremely low use case.
I've got no interest in taking out transmissionsπ, but there are a few "normal maintenance" jobs that the scissor type lift tends to get in the way of. A friend who has one uses his to raise the car, then slots in extra long axle stands and lowers the lift and moves it out of the way. That seemed a bit of a faff to me, hence the Quick-Jack.π

I have a 10 foot high ceiling but have to take away at least 3 feet due to the garage door hanging in the space when it is raised. A 4 post lift would be nice to have but I would have a project to do on the garage door first to be able to use it (get the tracks closer to the ceiling). And I know both of those expenditures would not make it past the "secretary of the fiance". π€£
A Quick Jack would be a nice addition to the garage equipment but again would not make it through the annual budgetary process.
So for the foreseeable future a floor jack and jack stands will have to suffice when working on "BLKBRRD". Regular maintenance on the daily drivers can be done easily enough with a pair of drive-up ramps.
They look interesting, but I note the key phrase in their product description - "If your garage has a ceiling height above 4 meters"
What a luxury that would be!π
For those of us with low ceilings the choice is limited. Looking back over the thread I see I advocated the QuickJack a few times - I stand by by my recommendation!ππ
I had the old '78 up on it a few weeks ago for the annual service in fact.....

After selling "BLKBRRD" there were funds available to purchase a QuickJack. I went for one that has the capacity to lift my F150 so it will easily handle "BLUBYU" and the other daily drivers that need things done. VERY handy for doing tire rotations at oil change time.
Easy to store out of the way.
Fashioned a couple "handles" using 1/2" black pipe pieces to make it easier to move them around.
Those handles are nifty! I move mine around on a little four-castor trolley, but I'll have to look into handles.
It takes a few minutes to set the QuickJack up, but it's so worth it in the long run!π

Got tired of getting my fingers pinched when moving the units around. The handles that came with the units are useless imho. The pipe handles slide into the hinge opening and let you use your entire hand to lift, not just your fingers. One handle would work ok if longer horizontal pieces were used but I like using two handles to lift and move them around.
I agree on the supplied handles - useless!π
I like your matching "blues" by the way!π
