Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Hey all:
Got the following response from Chevrolet Assistance when I wrote to them requesting information regarding help discovering information on my 79:
Dear Mr. Romanowski,
Thank you for your reply to the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate your owning a 1979 Corvette and your desire to obtain more information relating to this model. As stated in our previous reply, we do not have access to the build sheet for your Corvette. GM Vintage Services should be able to provide this for you. We also apologize for the incorrect Website referral. A good source of information can be found on the Corvette Clubs that are linked to our Website. You may access this Website using the following link:
http://www.chevrolet.com/features_home/f_buffs/index.html
We have also placed an order for a Restoration Package to be sent to your address. The packages include:
1) General information about a model's serial numbers and identification, interior and exterior standard equipment, as well as, upgrade options.
2) Chassis information - including information about the front and rear suspensions, steering, driveline, wheels and tires.
3) Dimensions and Weights - including interior and exterior dimensions, luggage/cargo space, and vehicle weights.
4) Body - including information about body construction and the exterior paint colors and processes.
5) Power trains - this section includes information about the model's power train components, combinations and systems.
Theses kits always include a copy of the Past Model Parts book. The package should be arriving in 3 to 4 weeks.
Thought you all might like to know that you can get some information out of GM sometimes. I was not expecting to receive the Restoration Package they speak of, but will let you all know if it contains any information that may be of value to you.
Later,
Mark

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

They also have a toll free number that I posted a while back. It is the number in the owners manual for speaking to a company representative. 1-800-222-1020 I think. Tell them what you want, and they will send it. I got mine 2 years ago, and it has a wealth of information in it.
I too think General Motors is very generous for sending this info out free of charge. I believe it is not free in Canada though.
The past model information manual has 47 pages in it, and the specification manual has 150 pages.
