Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.

I was wondering if there would be some help out there on what things I should be having my mechanic be checking out to see if it would be able to make the trip.

I have not had any real trouble driving the vette 350 miles or so at any one time.  Just scared alittle I guess. Thanks for the input.  Remember I have no knowlege about fixin' them, used to be good at breakin' them.

Larry,

You know your car, you have 138000 miles on her? She looks in good condition, check all your systems, service the engine,AC, brakes, maybe a minor tune up, when was the last time you changed the spark plugs? Distributor cap?Are your spark plug wires in good condition?Check fan belts? How are your tires? Fix any leaks, check hoses. You are not going to be alone out there, check your water pump, check brake lines for ware or bulges.I will give you a radio so you can stay in touch with me as we cross the USAI'll be in the green one, you'll do OK. Just tell your mechanic that you are going on 5000 mile trek with standard driving conditions, well maybe sometimes above standard conditions like when you try to pass me.....Terry

I'll be getting my vette ready from now and until the trekking.

I'll be replacing all belts, air and fuel filters, Oil change next week and week before trekking, top off all fluids while fixing the washer hose - not spraying on the whindshield  , get my Sh** non-factory alarm removed from my vette completely, doing some rewiring on the circuit board, fixing the power CB antenna, replacing some weather stripings, fixing A/C unit - leakes somewhere  , tyre rotation, a nice good tune-up requiring spark plugs, distributor cap, wires and find my oil leak that leads to the bottom of engine and lastly wash, prep, polish 3x's and wax 4x's.

I'd have a tune-up done, check all hoses, belts and all seals just for starters

I don't know my new Vette well enough to trust her on a cross country trek   I'd be scared as hell to take it out that far, especially after the trouble i had this summer.

Has anyone actually thought of sacrificing there Vette and maybe following in a truck.  Could you imaging how much that would save $$$ someone if you only had to rent a u-haul to get a car back to the west. I know no one even wants to think about this, but it is something serious to consider

Mark, I think that you would be surprised running your car at 60/65 MPH on a long stretch of two lane highway just cruzn, listening to the engine purr, knowing  that all the grease and oil lubricants are doing their job. And remember you are in a Corvette Caravan with others who enjoy one of the finest automobiles ever made? If you are to have a problem that's the time because you would have others there to help.. What trouble did you have  this summer? And is it fixed now?..Terry

You are right, that is a good idea, I don't know of anyone? I'm not expecting to break down? But, if I did and it could not be fixed in the next city..umm.. I would hope to find a rail yard and ship it by train back to the Northwest? Umm.. Unless I could find a trucker going west empty? Umm..Car Carrier going to the Northwest? Don't know until it happens? I plan on some faith and my ability to prepare my Corvette.

Your prolly right and I wish you all nothing but the best of luck. I know for sure I won't be able to make it  Even know I'd give my left *** to go on a cross country cruise with a Corvette Caravan.

Last summer on my way to the ALL CORVETTE Show in Issaquah, WA I lost my 3rd gear  It' an auto and runs like a dream in 1st, 2nd, and Reverse but looses all power when she shifts into 3rd  I had just come back from a 215 miles trip to the Skykomish Show and Shine (where I took 1st place) and it went out about 15 miles from home, so I drove home nice and slow in 2nd.  I won't be able to get her in the shop until early this spring.

Was susposed to be a great weekend with two great shows, atleast I made one of them

Mark put that baby on the back of or inside a trailer and bring it on with the Dakota. Once you get to Pidgeon Forge put her on the ground and drive the thing.
Look at it this way you get to show off both of your kids that way!
