Got pulled over yesterday in the vette for being clocked doing 55 in a 35. First thing the officer asked was if I had any weapons in the car & I stated no. Then he asked me how fast I was going and I said 55 then he said do I know what the speed limit was? I replied 50MPH. He  then asked if I was from around here...the answer was no. Asked if I had any speeding tickets in the last 3-4 yrs...no is the answer. Went back to his cruiser and checked to see if I was lying or if I was a wanted criminal. 5 minutes later he came back and replys I'm only giving you a warning then looked at the car once more & wished me a happy 4th of July. I reached out & shook his hand & wished him the same.  Gotta love cops like that

Alan

I have to add that I really thought the limit was 50mph & I didn't see any signs stating otherwise. I think this could have been a factor in his decission. I like to get on it like everyone else , but I'm very selective about where I do it.

Thats cool, I had a Washington trooper do almost the same thing when I was crusing out the beach in my Dodge Dakota.

I had just got my new wheels and 33x12.50 tires, this set my speedo off by 7mph.  I thought I was doing 65 in a 60, he clocked me at like 72mph. After I told him the story about the new wheels and tires, and promised to get my speedo fix, he went back to his cruiser to check out to see if I was a hardened criminal.  He comes back and said "get your speedometer fix and I'll let you go with a warning" But the last thing he said was "Love your truck, I drive a Ram 2500)

Theres still some cops out there not just trying to fill a quota

I have found over the years that it pays to be honest and polite when you get pulled over.
I have received more warnings than tickets.

Vette(s): Coupe 74 - 454 Drive it like you stole it!
Right on dwright!

You have to put yourself in their shoes.  There's a lot of stupid people out there who will get confrontational over little things and cops deal with them all the time.  The first 45 seconds is just to find out if you are one of them or not.

I tend to drive carefully fast, and I got away with a few warnings myself.  I believe that I didn't get tickets because I was polite.

I got pulled over on Saturday also. A motorcycle cop rode up next to me and told me to watch my speed since I jumped on it coming off a corner around 2 miles back. I asked how fast I was going and he said he didn't know...wasn't pacing me and his radar was off. Keep in mind we were going 45 side by side while talking and I could barely hear him. He asked one more question, I said "what?", and he told me to pull over (right in front of my brother's place no less). I apologized that I couldn't hear him and gave over my license and registration. He again told me to watch my speed, then asked an odd one..."where's your back window?". I said at home, be asked "because?", and I explained to him how 68-72 Vettes came with removable rear windows. He said OK, gave me back my stuff and took off. Just goes to show...don't be a wise ass and treat a cop with courtesy and they will appreciate it.

My best friend has been a LEO for 15 years or so. He says it is hard to find the good people anymore. He says just be polite and courteous and you will just get a warning. Be a wise crack or hard A55 and you will probably get a ticket. Those guys never know what they are walking into when they get out of their cars.

sometimes i get awful tempted to put my foot on it....but 20 over in VA is reckless driving... if you don't mouth off and aren't really reckless they may let you go... sometimes depends on the time of the month and location you are speeding in... if people have complained then you can hang it up... my biggest fear is the insurance company getting wind and they always do... ...

That was good luck for you.

I too learned to be polite and humble while talking to PO.

It has definately save my a#@ a few times.

However my last 15mph over the limit got me cited.

win some lose some. it`s all a matter of how much risk we are willing to take when we stomp on these cars.
