Vette(s): 1982 corvette crossfire production numer C5101985. Color is silver and claret. All original numbers match. slight mods to crossfire for better efficiancy and power balanced and added fuel pressure assembly between throttle bodies,
So I took the 82 out today after a few months of sitting. I turned at an intersection and my left rear tire blew, the car shocked me: it grabbed on the right tire and tossed me in to a skid. I over corrected and wound up on the center median that was just high enough to high center the car.
My rear driver rim and tire is shot, I will post pics once i get them off my phone, NO one has another american racing 6 spoke 15x7 mag rim in my area so I am on the hunt for one. I may re install the original rims for now. if anyone knows anyone that has a spare rim hanging around let me know.
The car seemed to sustain only minor front end damage ie: the alignment that I can tell so far.
Some minor scratching to the under carrage. and the exhaust. I am thinking I may have to get it into a shop and have the steering checked out, I was thinking about upgrading the steering anyway but just not this soon.
anyways I got off real lucky with no serious damage. Just a reminder to everyone on cold days even on dry roads things unexpected happen.
Drive safe

Glad the damage to the car was minimal, but more importantly, very happy to hear that you weren't hurt (although you didn't say...)
If the rest of the tires are the same vintage, I'd check the age and condition carefully!!

Glad to hear no one was hurt! As Paul said, everyone needs to check the age of their tires. Just because they look good doesn't mean they aren't going bad. If the tires are over 5 years old, CHANGE THEM! Blowouts are baaad for Vettes!

No, no one got hurt just my pride and how baffled i was with what happened. And the 50 yahoos taking pictures as they drove by. The cop that showed up was being a jerk and kept trying to get me to say i was hot roding the car, am sorry am not a dumb teen with a fast car. I baby my vette. I only get on it while accelerating on the freeway to blow the carbon build up out the exhaust.
I will be checking the rest of the tires before i take her out again

Good to hear you weren't hurt! These cars can be a little tricky to handle when a tire pops, so you're lucky it wasn't worse, and no-one hit you! Do a thorough inspection of the suspension when you get to look at it...there may be incidental damage that can create a problem down the road...like a cracked weld on the lower control arm braces on the frame.
Hope it's all minor damage, tho, and you can get it back in shape quickly!

I will go over the under carrage with a fine tooth comb. I looked at the steering rack and it looks like I will need to replace it. it looks damaged. any thoughts on what to upgrade the front end to? I might as well replace everything so I dont have issues later. upper and lower control arms, rack and pinion front end rebuilt the whole kit and kabootal.

Wow, that looks scarey, but also looks like you were lucky no other cars were in the turn lane.
ebo
Don't blame yourself when things happen that fast you do not have time to think.
Maybe it's because the age of our cars but it has not been uncommon for this to happen. Seems every six months or so someone posts they blew a tire.
Tires are the cheapest investment you can make, and these cars love new boots!
Hope the damage is minor.
Nice looking rims hope you can find another.

No body damage?
