Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
It is a real nice day here in Illinois today, so I decided to do a little cruisin',. After I had gone a couple of miles, I was sitting at a stoplight, and I smelled anti freeze. Wouldn't you know it, a heater hose blew up, spraying anti freeze everywhere. As luck would have it, I was only about 1 mile from home, so I watched the temp guage, and made it home and didn't have to call a wrecker. So now I have to go to the back garage and change the heater hoses. I'm going to change all of them, as I'm not sure how old they are...The fun of owning an old car is wonderful, ain't it? |thumb| |wavey| |bouncy| |cussing| |cussing| |cussing|

i think you are right in changing all of them at the same time. It is eeasier to make it part of yoiur normal scheduled maintainance that way.. Are you also going to install a shut-off valve in the heater supply line to try cuutting down on the cockpit heat?

At the moment, I just bypassed the heater, with a new piece of hose. It works really good. No heat in the cockpit. You can actually feel the A/C. But later this week, I'm going to change both of them and hook it up right. I might try to find some sort of shut-off valve to put in-line. Do you have any ideas? The little vacuum valve has a lot of rust and corrosion on it. I might change that too.. I also lost all of the Anti-freeze. I have new stuff out back...

I have been really lucky, as far as how far from home I have been with these problems. With the keyswitch, I was in the garage, with this, 1 mile away. Just yesterday, I was 30 miles away over in St Louis. That would have been fun!!!! It probably would have cost at least $100 to get it hauled home...

Thiings just get old and rotten... Kind of like me!! |laugh| |laugh| |laugh|

Be very careful when you are removing the old hoses from the heater core. It is easy to snap the fitting off the core if you use pliers on the old hoses. A very sharp knife and some finesse goes a long way here.

You got that right. I really don't want to bust that pipe off. One thing about it, they are out in the open, when you drive up on ramps.|wink|
