Need some help here with a decision? I need to go through my distributor, plug wires and plugs. For the distributor, is it best to stick with Delco HEI stock parts or use and aftermarket HEI tune up kit like the ones from Pertronix and Proform? These kits seem to be a bit cheaper than Delco. The engine is stock and I plan to keep that way. I’m trying to determine what the best option is for driveability and easy starts.

Go with AC/Delco parts. It just seems to work out better in the end with AC parts.
The other brand kits are cheaper...that's all I have to say about that...

As Joel said...go with Delco. The quality is excellent and consistent and available from any GM source. If you were building a higher performance engine, buying the hi-po stuff would be of help, but since you're running a stock engine you won't see any benefit.
For example...I installed a Pertronix module and coil, cap and rotor in my '78 L82, as well as different advance weights. What did I gain? Nothing noticeable beyond a slight improvement in acceleration, probably more from the different advance weights than anything else. Cleaning up the old weights may have yielded the same result. Essentially, it wasn't worth the extra bucks beyond whetver "feel good" I got out of it, albeit with a lighter wallet.
