Ga mornin, I have been given an opportunity to purchase a 75 coupe. L48 w/ T tops. Auto trans. Paint has been changed to red from # 22, bright blue. ALL numbers appear to match. 90+ K on the clock. Looks to be ALL original  save color and audio. The spare and carrier are missing, all tires, wheels, trim rings are very nice. Carpet is poor, seats show normal wear and tear. Smog pump is gone, and does not run well, cold blooded on start-up. Does not idol down well, when put into gear it stalls out. I am inclined to think there is a carb/choke problem, possibly vacuum leak. Of course the weather stripping is poor but Ts and covering seem nice. New shocks on front and most of the vacuum lines for front end have been replaced.  Now the hard part. Mom is selling it, son 45, heart attacked and is now deceased. She JUST WANTS IT OUT OF THERE, are her words. My request to my fellow fiberglass friends is WHAT IS IT WORTH.  She would like to start at 8K.  ANY contributrion of advice is welcome. Time is running out, 1 week till we get the 72' on the road for the trip to the springs. THANKS

Vette(s): 71 Colonnade Hardtop Coupe Torch Red with black interior originally L48 built to push around 360hp

Frame good? Paint OK? No cracks in bumpers? Not a bad price in my book. How long has it sat? May have bad gas & needs tank clean-out an carb work. If not, you may be right. Sound like carb or vacuum. If she says 8K for a start, offer less. If it were closer I would definitely look into it.

Even 8K may be a bit much.  It would be good to see it though. The rough running is probably due to sitting too long.

Woops, I goofed somewhere. I neglected to state that the vehicle is up to date on: license, inspection, registration and has been driven on local city streets this spring. I agree on the gas, dead octaine. Was driven on regular basis last summer. The owner has only been deceased a couple weeks.

If you honestly want the car, first thing to check is whether she can legally sell the car or whether it's going to probate.  Not sure how it works in your state, but if son left a will, the courts get involved in these parts.

It all boils down to why you want it and how much of any needed work  you can do yourself. I'd start at $8K and go down from there depending on what it needs to make it a safe reliable driver. The cosmetics, as we know, will cost as much as you wish to spend.

Good Luck

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.

I think 8K seems a bit steep also. Does Pa test emissions? If so, a tired carb that won't idle well most likely wouldn't pass the sniffer. My vote would be $6500.

It's a difficult situation given the circumstances, buy the carb issues, carpet and spare issues alone will cost you mucho $. That's besides what neither you of the mom don't know....

How far into PA from the NJ border is the car?

8K is not a bad price for a daily driver condition car. From the way you descriped it, it would not be worth putting a bunch of money into as a restorer project. Carpet, carb rebuild, and a few other fixes can be done and not break the bank. Just depends on what you want. Offer her less and see what happens.
