Vette(s): not currently a vette owner
A buddy and I are currently negotiating the purchase of a 69 vette rollng shell. The seller claims it was originally a big block car. The vin decoder doesn't go into this level of detail. Can anyone help decode the vin down to the production # level or point us in the right direction? I appreciate any help we can get. The vin# 194679S719775. Many thanks-Kevin

Vette(s): White 1975 L48 Stingray 129,000 Miles, daily driver.
I'm not sure of the exact date, but to my knowledge they didn't even start adding information like that to the VIN until the early 70's. If the seller is claiming original motor, then you can check on the block to see if the last digits of the VIN are stamped there. Not sure where they would be on a 69BB but on my 75SB they were on the passengers side at the front of the block. What I would reccomend is getting a Restoration Guide (NCRA?) or the Corvette Black Book. The Judging guide will definatly have the information you need to determine if the car was really an original BB. Does this make sense? Not entirely sure what the name of the guide is.

The NCRS judging guide for 1969 should have all the info you need.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

If you had the build sheet from the top of the gas tank, it would have the engine RPO number on it. Then you could tell the particular engine it had.
other than that, I would have no idea.

Vette(s): 1965 white with red stinger Coupe HotRod
1970 Bridgehampton Blue Convertible - NCRS / Stock
2019 Sebring Orange Coupe 3LT
Gone but not forgotten:
1987 Yellow Convertible
2003 Yellow Convertible
2007 Atomic Orange Coupe
2007 Lemans Blue coupe
You might be able to find some clues in the car if you don't have the original engine block. Things which were different between SBs and BBs are springs. There might be other ways to tell but I don't know what they are. There is also often a build sheet behind the dash if the tank sticker is gone. There is no way to tell from the VIN in 1969 (or 70 and some later years too) which engine came in the car unfortunately. ~Juliet
