I'm looking to buy a '78 or '79 coupe. I live in central NYS, but am willing to drive up to about 250 miles since I want a 4-speed manual transmission. I've found a number of vehicles of interest in Martinsburg, PA -- Hobby Car Corvettes. Has anyone on the C3VR ever dealt with them. Can anyone vouch for their reputation and/or business practices? Thank you so much!

Hey Newbie,

I visited Hobby a few years ago when I was first beginning to look for a C3.  It was a bit of a drive and the weather was cold.  The place looks like a poor little 'dirt lot' country car dealer from the road and it's easy to miss.  They have some nice cars, inside their small showroom, and I believe they are expert in their field, but I left feeling very unsatisfied.  They didn't offer any help in how to choose a C3.  The son told me I was asking all the wrong questions, but didn't offer to help with any of the right questions.

I don't know your experience with C3's, but if you're new to this hobby, then I strongly suggest you spend a lot of time here and the "Corvette Forum" reading everything you can.  It took me about a year before I finally bought my basket case.  But, like you, I knew what model year I wanted.  Then I had to look at a few rotten wrecks before I found my new love.

Sincerely,
John

Hi Alan, Are you a member of the Mohawk Valley Corvette Club? I will most likely be joining that club, as it's the closest one to me. Thanks for the offer to help with my search. Have a pleasant evening!

Thought I recognized the cars in your profile pic. Also, the white check pattern on the driveway. I've been on the MVCC site a few times and was impressed with the number and scope of activities you do out there. Hopefully, I can make it to a meeting soon -- I see you have one on Wednesday night.
