Playing with the 78 today.....had the hood up and looking at the hood release cable. Was thinking, might be smart to replace that cable so I don't have to go through what some on the forum has had happen to them.
I was looking for a route to install an auxillary cable release and spotted a little rubber grommet between the firewall and wiper bay.
If your cable breaks, just pop out the grommet, stick a screwdriver (straight one) into the hole.....engage the hole in the release catch, push the tool towards the center of the car and "Viola"......pop goes the weas...errr hood !!
Have a great week everyone

Not all of the Sharks have that hole, tho.
Those you have to release from underneath...

Don't think it's quite Viola? It's more like.. Crap I know that POS release is thar somewhar... Kinda like the Biblical sense of a Camel passing thru the eye of a needle.... Oh yeah....It does work though if ya invoke patience....

Patience...Is that what you call it Tux...
I invoked a lot of things when I couldn't get my hood to release but, Patience wasn't one of them

Gentlemen...."achem"
I'll have yall know that I have achieved my masters at popping that hood with a screwdriver.
It's 12 1/2" long (leverage) w/ 4 1/2" handle. I guide the tool straight down along the pivot end of the wiper arm and then I have to pull-up on the hood slightly, about 1/4" so the tool will slide through the hole. ....push the tool through the hole until you hit metal..push down on the handle and the blade should slide into a horse-shoe shaped area of the latch. Push the handle fairly hard toward the center and it should be "pop-up time".
I practiced this move with the hood up and with it down. I now have a new "emergency hood opening tool"
Dang !! It's the same one I was going to send to Larry for a "door spring tool"

Rich, I think you're gonna fit in quite nicely here at C3VR!!
I also think everyone with a Shark car that has this hole should find it, and a suitable "tool" to use, and practice opening the hood with it. The tool will be small enough to keep stored in the car, so you'll always have it in case of emergency. We've covered this before in other threads, but it never hurts to revisit some things, if for no other reason than to help the newer members.
