Last nite while driving to DairyQueen a mid-90's Honda was in front of me. As we approached a long open stretch he gunned it; so did I. How fast do those things go He was really movin' and I couldn't overtake him. Granted, he did get a jump on me but I never thought he could move that fast. Not only that but he took the curve at the end of the staightaway at speed. We had to be doing over 100. Don't know about yinz guys but my 26 year old C3 gets pretty scarry at that speed.

Yea, unfortunately I have never owned a vette that was great at cornering. I hear the new ones are much better handling. And yea they are scary over 100. I love vettes but I have had lots of other sports cars and older vettes are straight line cars as far as I am concerned. Unless you do some suspension beef up work. Still the weight front/rear ratio is not meant for high speed cornering. I had a Porsche 914 (the little cheap ones) that was mid engine, that thing cornered like a go cart. No slowing down for corners.

The other thing I learned about foreign sports cars (which is no secret) is that they know how to make horsepower in small packages, 4 cyl with twin turbos and double overhead cam. My daily driver is a Honda civic and it's a quick, great handling little car! But you got to have a "bad" looking car like a vette. The Hondas are fun but not much to look at. I want something that looks fast standing still. Something that’s a joy to look at, Art!

Anyway, keep that vette on the ground man.

A bunch of "younger pups" gather at a house about a mile east of my place to work on their "toys". Looks like scenes from the movie The Fast and the Furious some nights. Then to test out their latest upgrades they come zipping west at some ungodly speeds (even though the speed limit is 35 MPH). Half expect a tire to blow one of these times as they have to be pulling some pretty good Gs taking the zig-zag in the road by my place. Be picking some tiny parts out from between the trees if that ever happened. Those little buggers are plenty quick off the line but have no idea what their top end would be.

I have heard it said that C3s can get a little light in the nose as speed increases into triple digits. One thing that was recommended to me if I ever experienced that sensation was to pull on the headlights. When they pop up they kill some of the lift that is being generated by the aerodynamics of the Shark's lines. Haven't tried it yet however so can't speak to the effectiveness of that action.

When I had my 69, all my triple digit driving was at night, the front end still got light, expecially frightening when you crest a slight rise.
Some of those little honda and toyotas are very fast, and unfortunately the mid 70's vettes aren't. But cruising with the top down makes up for it.

Even with the big block, my '69 gets pretty light around 110. I've had it to 120 but there isn't anyplace around here straight and level enough to enjoy the speed. Those Hondas are pretty quick. There was a show TV on last Sunday or the Sunday before and they said the newest Hondas will be available in three different hp ratings with the top being 1000 hp. I can not imagine driving that car anywhere else but on a drag strip.....seems WAY too strong for the street.

I just want to make it clear that I did not get the C3 to race or speed down the road at 100mph.
But every once in awhile don't yinz guys just like to hammer it... The 'coolness' of the car is what really gets me excited, not the speed, but every now and then...

HONDA - Had One, Never Did Again At least that's my experience with it. It was a great car... if you're looking for reliability, good gas mileage, decent handling, absolutely no compliments, no head-turning... but then again, some of the newer Honduhs are pretty nice, like their little S2000.... I've owned my share of Japanese sportscars, an 87 RX7, 91 MR2... and something about revving your engine higher than 4k rpm does something to you. And their nibleness helps a lot too. But our cars... wow. Don't even need to tell you all the great things about ours :)

Lights don't help keep the nose on the ground when running triple digits.
Infact, had the lights pop up when going that fast and didn't even want them up at the time. this was when we were dong a driving course at Road Atlanta and wnated all of the speed that we could get.

Just take care and keep the nose down if possilge.

This thread is very interesting. I have had my 74 speedo needle buried to the peg. I did it at night with the lights on. I thought that the front end felt a little squirrelly over 100, but since it was a straigth road, I just kept my foot in it. I guess I was lucky that no deer jumped out, but wow what a ride I covered 23 miles in no time. I would do it again, but I think I would do it in the daytime.

Ooof..now I wanna try it!! Pegged the speedo on a 160mph speedo or the 85! =)?
