Russ,
Have you tried to short the relay to ground and see if the horn works? If not then take a length of wire and short from BLACK wire on the relay to ground... The horn should sound if not then either the horn is bad or wiring from the relay to the horn is bad. If the horn sounds then you can short the signal out at the steering wheel. From the spring button in the steering wheel to ground should sound the horn too. If the horn still does not work, then chances are the horn relay or the switch in the steering column is bad..

All this is assuming the fuse is good and the horn itself is good. By using the above method you half the circuit and hopefully can quickly identify or locate the problem. Good Luck with you trouble shooting and getting your horn working.

Be VERY observant in doing wire replacement, esp.. to burnt wiring... REASON you ask???

Something caused the initial wire to get hot, something may not have opened the circuit like it was suppose too! In "short" (pun) you may see a spark or two or "fry" the wires again when you turn the ignition switch on..

Keep the wires you are fixing seperate from the wiring harness until you are sure they are not getting hot and the plastic covering doesn't melt.. You could have a real mess in the wiring harness otherwise |wink|

Good Luck tracking this problem down. |bigeyes|

Hurley, Take heed in what 81 is saying, I just replaces a few wires under the hood of mine before I did the rebuild, just to get the wipers to work, well I just spliced in some new wires, flipped the wiper switch on and still nothing, well after about 20 seconds there was something, let me tell you, I can use |smokin| this and chuckle now, but it could have been a disaster, and it will be worst for you under the dash, so be carful, something caused it, find out what it was. Glad to have you aboard, will help when I can, thanks Dave, Mr69vett |wave|

Vette(s): 1968 convertible; 1980 L-82. Numbers match on both.
Hurley -- buy a replacement dash harness. Major PITA to install but you won't have to worry about a potential fire hazard under the dash. Burned fiberglass is fugly.
