Mostly cash from putting money aside over a couple years. Took the rest from our home equity line, (not the best idea), when the car I wanted came along. And of course it cost more then I planned on spending.

When I got a second job I told the wife, this is all going into my Corvette account. 4 years later I started looking for a decent driver. Found my dream car, haggled him down a little and gave him cash.
I was happy, he was happy. He bought a 2002 C5, so now he is really happy.
I have personal rules when it comes to my hobbies and, in particular, my corvettes and their maintenance. One rule is cash only, no loans. These are my rules, but I certainly would not condemn anyone for borrowing money for an opportunity to achieve their dream.......if that's what you want and you work for it. go for it!
I am the same way. MX bikes, boats, Vettes, whatever.
Toys are cash.
I have been real lucky so far I guess with my 73.
All I have done is a tune up and just drive it.
Best advice I got was from a nieghbor at the farm.
He said, "dont feel like you need to do a frame off resto, its a beautiful car, just drive it a year or 2 and then decide if you need to paint it, put in a bigger motor, ect".
Best advice I got.
I borrowed from my 401K so I guess that is sort of like cash or a loan from myself. Anyway, that was a long time ago and it has been cash for everything I have fixed/replaced on it.

It looks like I am the second guy here that traded straight. I traded my 1994 Chevy Short Wide for my 1976 Vette. Lucky for me cause I ain't got no cash.

I told my husband I was gonna buy an old vette and when I saw the Poop-On, it said...."take me home, drive me and take good care of me." So I paid cash for it and my husband shook his head........he's still shakin' his head and tries to drive it any chance he can get (I let him drive it to club meetings and shows).

When the real estate market went absolutely CRAZY around here I went from being a landlord to being a Corvette owner. (Well, first we paid off some debt, took the kids to Disney and invested most of what was left for the future.) Anyhow, I begged and pleaded with my wife, reasoning that we'd never be in such a position again.
I paid 4 grand cash for mine and put another 12 hundred in to it to make it roadworthy. Since then I only pay cash for repairs or upgrades. That's the rule I (we) made. And I stick to it.
I may get those greedy feelings once in a while as to why I should'nt just go ahead and get that ZZ-4 / 700R4 combo I'm dreamin' of. However, a dealz a deal and just owning a Corvette is pretty cool.
